Hems? Who needs 'em...?

I did the scarf square top last night!  Before I got it hemmed up, which it needs to be around the neck, arms and hem...  I asked Maddy to try it on.  She grabbed the new matching skirt too, so we've got a whole outfit to show you!  Except for the shoes...  But it's a given she'll be wearing some.

She struggled with the belt because it's too long and I loved the expression on her face.

BUT... here we are and there it is.  It looks pretty good!  Immediately following the mini fashion show, she insisted that I at least finish the hemming around the neck and arms so she could wear the top today for the town festival happenings.  I did a quick job of it without getting rid of raw edges.  I'll come back to that later I guess... or serge them sometime soon.  The fabric frays a bit.
Not sure if I'd ever mentioned this, probably did, so indulge me.  When I was in college and my two sisters up and married and moved out within a month of each other, taking all their clothes with them...  I was desperate for some clothes to fill my wardrobe!  So every day after classes, I'd stop at So-Fro fabrics and pick up a yard of something interesting and sometimes a pattern.  And every night whipped up a new top to wear the next day to school.

STUDY?!!!  As a FRESHMAN??!  nah....  I knew it all!  or at least I thought so.  I studied in the school restaurant between classes over a bagel with too much cream cheese.

My secret to sewing so many tops quickly, was that I was skinny and could tuck them in.  I didn't have to mess with the hems!

Ah the good ol' days!  When hems were optional...

  2. At my age, tucking is punishable by death!lol

I think Maddy needs to start learning the fine art of hemming. This will give you more time for creating!

  5. Way too cute!!!
Ah I remember those college days too. The cream cheese and bagel part not the too skinny part.....
As for hems, I would just do a nice surge one. Anything else might be too bulky.
