Weekend Adventures

On Friday, after work, Robb, Meri, Leon and myself headed to cheese country to see Maddy and Matthew at their new place.  5.5 hours away...  It was a long journey, as Leon kept hitting the restart button on the portable dvd player and we listened to 5 hours of Power Rangers and "WHEN are we going to get there?!"

But we did!  And Leon found that he is 50% contortionist.

We stayed up later than we should, but that didn't stop us from seeing the sights on Saturday morning.  After a fab breakfast of scrambled eggs and tons of bacon, M&M took us to the local farmer's market that spanned probably 27 blocks long.  I may be exaggerating, but not by much.  So many booths, we had such a great time!  And ate lots of great food.

I did buy some cheese curds and wow, were they fresh and yummy!  I think they're melting in the car though at the moment...  Not sure if they got brought in last night.

There were Steampunk masks and Leon fell in love with an elephant man mask, but at $20-25 each, we passed.  Got the picture, then passed.

Towards the end of the farmer's market, we sat and listened to a young woman playing a keyboard and singing.  She also had a milk can in front of her with the word, COLLEGE painted on it.  :)  She was VERY good and I feel like she'll go far.

Leon had a blast visiting with other kids and playing in the fountain while we rested.

And he rested a little too.

Went back to the apartment and enjoyed some bbq chicken sandwiches that Maddy had in the crockpot all morning.  YUM!  Played some Exploding Kittens and then a little Settlers of Catan with everyone, including Leon, who was on a team with Matthew.  Because... Matthew.

Robb and I WON that game!  and I was totally shocked.

Then since Robb had worn himself out from exploding kittens AND comparing prices of kohlrabi at the 27 booths that sold it at the farmer's market, we left him home and went to find the lake.

On the way, Matthew stopped at a Hobby shop to buy the Catan expansion pack for a killer game that evening.  Leon was exhausted and fell asleep in the car.  He woke up as I carried him to the beach and then he was IN that lake!  He played hard while the rest of us balanced shoes and cell phones on the beach, grinding our feet into the sand.

We discovered that Leon is a "sharer" as well as a social butterfly.  He swam over to every group of kids there, introduced himself, told who we all were, told his password to his tablet,  his age and our bank account info as well as told them where we were from and that no one was home right now.  Um.. THANKS kid!

my girls...

The only way to get Leon out of the lake was to entice him with a castle play land right next to it.  Whew!  I'm glad that was there!

This place was huge and there were so many fun things for kids to do in it.

My princesses.

About this time, Maddy was whispering with Matthew and then they came over and said that they'd forgotten that they were supposed to help bring treats to church in the morning.  Would I mind if they stopped to buy something to make cupcakes?  No probs...

They came out of the BP with a brownie mix and a bucket of ice cream...  REALLY?  Is that an appropriate "between church and Bible study" snack?  eh, maybe they have a freezer there...  I didn't think much of it.

While we were gone, Robb had mostly prepared a super secret steak night back at the apartment and after a little more prep when we got back, we all enjoyed a good meal.  THEN they brought out the brownies and ice cream for a surprise birthday dessert for me!  Those sneakers...  I was totally fooled thinking they were baking them for Sunday...

So they sang and I blew out candles. WHEW!  Blew them ALL out!  (well, there was just one candle that we could use.  The only other option than this one was citronella and not too many people use those for a community birthday candle, do they?) No boyfriends for me!  and no hints of emphysema.

After church and Bible study and a huge lunch at a buffet, we headed off for home.  Leon slept for 1.5 hours, so that was nice!  Then watched a few movies until we got home.  Meri mostly slept and I wrecked my tongue sucking on lemonheads.  BUT they kept Robb and I awake.
Almost home.  Almost home.  It's not every day you go to bed at 8pm...

Maddy got a few more wedding pics over the weekend and posted them today. Yay!

That's a long ways to go for brownies and ice cream but well worth it I'd say! The picture of Leon kissing Maddy is priceless!

What a great birthday surprise for you. Does Leon have some headphones? Those always saved my sanity on long trips.

I think listening to 5 hours of Power Ranges is worth the pay off of having a family weekend with the newlyweds!
