My Other Car...

A couple years ago, my son was on his way home early one Sunday morning from McDonalds. It was just under two weeks after he got his driver's license. He had gotten there and then found out he didn't have to work... So on his way home, he decided to take the road less traveled, a crooked winding gravel road. As he rounded a corner, a deer greeted him in the middle of the road causing him to swerve, take a ditch and roll his dad's car.

I knew nothing about this until Ryan got home. Robb's in the shower, so Ryan wakes me up. "Mom, I was in a car accident." Well, that kind of comment wakes you up in hurry, doesn't it?
Making sure he had all his fingers and toes and that he wasn't bleeding profusely, I hustled Robb up.

Apparently the doors were jammed and Ryan had to crawl out the crushed back window to get out of the car. He walked to the main road, holding his pants up because his funky belt buckle broke in the accident. A neighbor of ours happened to be driving by, turned around and brought him home. Aren't neighbor's wonderful?

So anyway - back to the car... As soon as I saw it, I wasn't strong anymore. I burst out into tears. God had saved my boy for a reason. By all rights, he should have been hurt badly and/or killed in that car, it was so crushed up and crumpled.

Ryan was under the impression tho that he was immortal... jokingly of course... maybe... he was going through a very rough patch back then.

So Robb, in all his humor and good nature found a website that lets you design your own bumper stickers. He had the above sticker made. I put it on a magnet sheet and we wore them on the cars with pride and to rub it in just a little.

So when Ryan was in the car accident a few weeks ago, he and I were clearing all our personal effects out of the van before the insurance company toted it off to be crushed somewhere... In the glove compartment, Ryan came across this bumper sticker. He started laughing and said we need to update it a little now.

So as long as he's ok with me using it... it's back on my new/old car (I inherited Robb's). We were thinking about making a new one that said something like, "Once Again, my other car... was totaled by my son"

We're thankful that he was safe and unharmed in both incidents. God really is watching over him and has a purpose for him. Hopefully he'll discover it soon.
