My son took his best friend that happens to be a girl to prom last night. Since he's homeschooled, he was her guest and it was at his old high school.
I had a church mission rally most of the day that kept me from home, so I got finally rolled in at 4:45pm, when he said that he was going to stop back with his date. Apparently he had stopped by with her 30 minutes beforehand, so I missed them. I kind of felt like Steve Martin in the movie, Father of the Bride... But Robb had taken a couple pictures, so I enjoyed them. Then I had a fashion show to attend with my American Sewers Guild ladies, planned and paid for months ago, so I left shortly after that.
Ryan and Amy went out to eat at a local Chinese restaurant before going to the coronation. I wasn't aware of this until later, but parents are encouraged to go to the coronation and see their kids get announced and walk in. I got a call from Amy's mom about how it went and she emailed me these pictures.
Ryan walked in with Amy and got announced, then because another girl was going to have to walk in alone, he ran back and walked her in too. There were cheers from the crowd! Someone asked him if his parents were there to see it and he said "no". But a teacher had recorded the whole thing and said he could have a copy. How cool!!! I'll be excited to see it.
Then after prom got over, they attended the after prom party, changed to casual clothes and played games until the wee hours when a hypnotist performed. I think the hypnotist put the notion in their heads to head straight home and not talk to anyone because that's exactly what Ryan did. I had awoken at 3:30am and couldn't get back to sleep. I tried! But then at exactly 5:22am, I heard the front door open and ran to talk to Ryan. But his bedroom door was already closed. I knocked and all he said was "I've got to get to sleep! growl growl!" or something like that. So hopefully he'll get up soon, because we told him he could stay out as late as he wanted, but he was expected to make it to church this morning. We have an 11 o'clock service.
I went to a very small Lutheran high school where I was the only graduate that year. Dancing was looked down on and really... if we did have a prom, I'd have had to dance with my cousin... So I never went to dances until college. Didn't really date until college either, except for a couple. So this is a new experience for me. I kind of feel like I missed out on a lot yesterday not seeing Ryan in his Matrix-type tuxedo and Amy in her gorgeous finery.
Well - the kids had fun and got home safely and that's what really matters! Don't they make a cute couple?
