Moving on

Meri is finally moving into Ryan's old room. It's been 2 months and he hasn't moved back home yet. We were going to paint it, but just haven't gotten around to it.

Does that mean I'm holding off doing it in hopes he'll move back?

Nope - it just means with school starting and activities ramping up, I've been too busy. I still want to paint, but it's not going to happen before she moves in.

Last night we moved her dresser in and all her winter clothes. She hung things up (yes! Meri!!) and folded and put things away so she could find them. Pretty organized! Better than I would've done. She still has too many clothes tho. How does that happen?!

Oh! And on freecycle last night, someone was offering a loft! I emailed immediately and got it! For FREE! I'll pick it up tonight after an auction that I'm going to. Meri was so excited when she overheard my phone conversation that she grabbed a piece of paper and wrote in crayon, "Are you kidding about a loft?!" We had been talking about getting her one for the new room, so we can fit a desk underneath for her. This was perfect!

Anyway - Ryan's old dresser will get moved back to her old room and Maddy will store her clothes in that "spare" room now. Maddy doesn't have a closet in her room and her dresser only holds so much... So I guess this room will double as her dressing room. Only parttime tho.

My plan is to make this spare room into my sewing room and get my dressmakers dummy and all my sewing things and fabric stash out of the diningroom and back hall. If anyone has plans on how to build a large light-weight but sturdy folding table that will fit over a twin sized bed, email me!

I plan to build a table that I can fold up and tuck behind the bed when it's not in use. The table should be big enough so I can lay out a pattern on it and cut to my hearts content. There will be another table where my sewing machines can be out all the time. WOOHOO! Right now, I tuck them into the cabinets under my hutch when we need the diningroom table.

If all goes well, I'll still have a place for relatives to stay over and not be too crowded.

Well - it's off to the salt mines! I've got a few miracles to pull off today at work. Wish me luck!

Yeah! You get a sewing/craft room...I'm so jealous!

....maybe you could make a table that folds up and doubles as a head-board for the bed..that would be a cool idea!...double function!

How great that you get a sewing room! Congrats!!
Hubby is taking over our now vacant bedroom for a study/guest room so my machines will stay in our bedroom and I'll keep on using the dining room table for cutting....that is WHEN I get back into sewing again.lol

I sure wish you lived closer....I've been trying to get rid of a loft bed for 2 months now!lol

You make me miss sewing! I haven't done it in a long time, though I have a fab sewing machine.

I never used a table to cut patterns. I always had one of those fold-up cutting boards and laid it across the bed. Though a fold up table would probably last a lot longer.

Hope you find some good plans!

My feeling it's going to be one of your fave rooms...Cheers to creativity!
ps: apparently there's a creep who has been using my blog name to leave comments... Just be aware of it, which is legit! grrr...it's upsetting to say the least. Anyway, hope you have a wonderful day!

I have a craft room and don't know what I would do without it... I think that you will love it too!

Make it a great day!

That's awesome that you'll get your own craft room...sounds like this was a win/win for everyone.

Except I'm kinda stuck on the whole "a place for relatives to stay". There's a reason we haven't upgraded to a 5-bedroom house....I love being able to say to relatives, "We'd love to have you stay with us but we simply don't have the room".

Hope you pulled off those work miracles with time to spare.

I'm not familiar with a loft other than a loft room...but I'm glad you were able to get it - and for free :D

I was thinking 'sewing room' the whole time I was reading this. One day I hope to have a room like that. I'm not wishing for it to get here any sooner than it is though. It's tough having those babies move out, isn't it?

A space for guests is such a double edged sword . . . but the craft room is super cool!! I'd get a padlock and work til my heart's content. Lucky you!!!

UBER envious of a solo craft room. :)

Get a nice used flat solid door that you would use as the table. Then secure it with hinges to the studs on the wall (Think RV tables). Put a latch on it to secure it to the wall when it is not needed.

Good and bad comes when our little ones fly the coop. It's hard to watch them go and start their own lives; it's nice to have the space freed up for other things.

So did you pull of that miracle??

Good luck with all that work. I bet Meri's happy to have a new room. Maybe your son is just needing to exercise some independence and will come back in time?
