It's a Hippity Hoppity birthday!

This Saturday, Maddy and I headed for Kansas City for my nieces birthday party. Robb and the others left the day before. Maddy drove for almost 200 miles for me and got lots of good driving experience under her belt. For example, how to pass a semi during a gusher rainstorm without swearing, etc... She got tired within 20 miles of our destination and then I took over. Immediately we got stuck in construction and a traffic jam. 3 miles in one hour... Yes, that slow... Maddy complains about it, but she slept thru the whole thing! We got to KC just as the party started.Because of the rain, the pool didn't open on time, but my SIL had other arrangements and activities for the girls to do until then. She had hired a young man to come in and teach the girls how to dance Hip Hop. It gave us all lots of giggles, but mostly the girls! Then Robb played Happy Birthday to her on his bagpipes. If you live in KC and heard something odd on Saturday afternoon, it was probably him. One little girl told her mom that that was the best part of the party! She doesn't get out much... *just kidding!!! Robb is very good at the pipes! They're just loud!*Sabrina opened her presents and we had this adorable cake! I made the duffle bag for her on Friday night. What do you think? I didn't have any straps at home for it, so I made my own by braiding several yards of matching fabric. Turned out pretty cute I think and she liked it, so I was happy! Finally the pool opened and the girls splashed around making new friends and getting clorine in their eyes.We were there for 3 hours, then turned around and headed back home. Switched the car arrangements up a little so Maddy could drive again on the way home for Robb this time.

My secret to driving long distances when I have to stay awake is to eat sunflower seeds in the shell. non.stop. Sucking the salt off them first, then cracking them open for the seed inside. Ahhh... If it were a bag of chips, I would eat them non stop too, but this is less calories... But my tongue is paying for it today because it tends to peel after so many!

Oh and caffeine... can't plan a trip without caffeine!

You should've gone to the Scottish Highland Games & Celtic Festival in KC over the weekend. Robb's music would have fit right in. :)

As usual, we had other plans, but one of these years, I'm going to go!

That bag is really cute...and so is the cake. Sounds like a great time. Oh, sunflower seeds...often I skip the seed and just go for the salt.

I love sunflower seeds but not the shells. Hate having to get them out of the shells, too much work for little reward.....
Wonderful job on the bag! Love the handles, it makes it all the more unique.

What an adorable cake...and the BAG!!!! Cute as can be!!!!

That is the most unique and fun birthday party - bagpipes!!! Hip-hop! What a great and unusual combination! Woo-hoo! Bet you'll never again attend another like it! lol.

Glad it was fun. And, glad you had your sunflower seeds, because the traffic sounds like it was anything BUT fun! Yikes!

Love the bag, and I think the straps are the best part!

And the sunflower seeds, they got me through some tough times at TBS - like the 12 mile hump. But you're right, they wreak havoc on your tongue!

Looks like a good time was had by all once you got there.
And the handmade strapping makes that bag....

Now the party would have been complete if Robb could have piped some Hip Hop too.lol
And tell him he's welcomed anytime to come play Happy Birthday for me on those things.....heck, can he come teach me how to play it?
