klasse barna dans

In case you didn't study Norwegian in school, the title translates to 4th graders dance... duh...

Ok - I had to use the Google translator on my side... But I do have some Norwegian blood in me, so it rolls off my tongue. and usually into the street...

When Meri was very little, her godparents, namely her godfather (but he doesn't like to be called that) taught her the 10 little piggies rhyme in Norwegian. She was only 2, but sounded adorable when she attempted to do the rhyme to her daddys toes while we were on vacation.

Tickle tuch... tickle tuch... We had to call Mike and let her say it into the phone. He laughed and laughed! That's how she understood the following.

Denne lille grisen gikk til markedet
Denne lille grisen ble hjemme
Denne lille grisen hadde roastbiff
Denne lille grisen hadde ingen
og denne lille grisen grĂ¥t tiss tiss tiss hele veien hjem

So anyway, we live in a very Norwegian community, as if you didn't guess by now. Uffda is a very common phrase in the nursing homes. Uffda Meg is equivalent to "omg". Or rather Uffda with more emphasis.

Every summer, the town celebrates it's Norwegian and Scandinavian heritage over a weekend. Maddy participated in the community play and Meri danced the Mamuscka.. Oh, I mean the dances of Norway! The elementary school teaches the kids different dances for each grade level and they perform in the middle of the street during the celebration. Here are some of the pics of a few of the years. I know I have more, but I can't find them. They were probably taken with an old fashioned camera and are sitting in a box somewhere waiting for a scrapbook...

This is kind of a tribute as Meri will be in middle school next year and won't be doing this anymore...Ryan and Meri watching kids get ready to dance. Meri is in her costume for the kiddie parade.
Maddy right after the dance and Meri with her kiddie parade entry.
Meri - right after I made her this dress last year.

Your pictures are so nice. It is nice to capture the kids in things they do, it is a treasure that time has captured for a lifetime. Thank you for coming by.

Looks like a great time. Around here it's German. We have BIG Octoberfest every September. Seems like every city and church gets into it, including the selling of German beer :od
