Concentrating on my stove....
I DO take you guys advice!!! And I have proof.
Mamma Has Spoken saw my pizza stone yesterday and I could hear the gasp from 3 states away! She said, Get that thing in the self cleaning oven fast!! or something to that affect.*gasp* I thought it was supposed to look like that! Guess not... I was under the impression that the more seasoned it was, the better, because then you didn't need to spray it before baking with it so I'd just been using extremely hot water and the little brown scrapers. I was wrong.
BTW: The crumbs and loose stuff is from the delish calzone that just came off it. I don't store it that way!
So this morning, I pulled one rack out of the oven and popped my pizza stone in the remaining rack. Put the oven on self-cleaning and went about my business. After taking Meri to school, I returned home to a noisy kitchen full of smoke and I could see more smoke pouring out the top vent of the stove. I quickly turned on the fans and opened windows.

So I'm looking forward to checking out my handiwork at lunch and see how the stone is looking!
Maybe like this?? Nah! I'm sure it won't look THAT good.I need to clean it like this more often!

Yeah, I saw it in your picture yesterday and thought, "Wow! Her stone is seasoned better than mine!"
I never wash mine. I just give it a rinse with hot water (no soap) and just continue to let it get well seasoned.
Until my stone broke (apparently all by itself!) I never washed it, just hot water and a little scrubbing!! Never and soap!!
I left a comment hours ago and Blogger ate it...now what did I say?
I don't have one of those but I've always wanted one. I had no idea you could clean it that way.
Wow, in a self-cleaning oven...who knew? I seldom clean our oven and when I do I feel like the fire dept should just park outside the house.
Um, I'm happy to be a taste tester for the next pizza at your place.
I thought they were supposed to look like that too! I better try that.
