Mongols make killer S'mores!

Yeah Yeah, I know... If you're an FB friend of mine, you already saw this last night.... But if a picture can say a thousand words... Here they are.
Friday was an sleety ice storm so we didn't go fabric shopping then. Saturday looked good tho, so we went to Des Moines for the day. Spent a total of 15 minutes at Hancock, then went to JoAnn Fabrics for over 3 hours...

Maddy had an idea for a dress to make one similar to one she'd tried on when out with friends the week before. She had it on her phone so we could reference it. Got our interpretation together after MUCH frustration and discussion and were about to get it cut out.

Who should I run into but a professional theatrical costume designer that I know from my ASG (American Sewing Guild) meetings. She designs clothes outside the theaters too and sells her own line. So I thought I'd get a professional opinion... Her waiting husband wouldn't mind! *would he?*

Showed her our idea, pattern and cell phone pic. She said, "If you haven't committed to this fabric yet..." And then proceeded to give us more ideas to make the dress more like the pic.

Ohhhhhhhh... . We hadn't considered a few possibilities! I took off in one direction to look at the lace again and Maddy went off to agonize over fabric again. Ginny, the designer, got her fabric cut and then helped Maddy with some fabric ideas. Her husband wouldn't mind... *wouldn't he?* He was looking as if this happens all the time... :)Finally after 3 hours of traipsing through their store, we finally got our fabrics cut and then hunted down the HuHot to satisfy the shooting pangs in our stomachs. Man! Was I famished! We made one round around the HuHot grill and it was such a long line I didn't want to go back for a second. Meri wanted to tho, so I let her. After seeing some kids at another table making s'mores, I decided we ARE going to try dessert this time, so I ordered one.The waiter, Gus... Yeah we know his name now... brought us a candle thing and lit it at the table. As time went by the flames got higher. I can't believe the fire marshall hasn't closed them down because of these!!! But it was delicious and we had such a good time with our dessert! Meri kept making hers catch on fire. Quite by accident of course... But I kept imagining the last scene from the movie Dennis the Menace happening...

It didn't! And I drove home with the kids all full and sleepy. Back in time to prepare a birthday party for my son's girlfriend. It was a busy but fun day. Working on the dress this week. More pics to come! Oh - and I'm still working on the bagpipe vid...

I think s'mores is the perfect ending to three hours in a fabric store! Here's to a happy 2011...

I love fabric stores and could probably spend 3 hours in one easily. I would have to do it alone, though, since Hubby would not want to be there that long. He can make it about an hour. LOL!

Love the fabric and lace!
I've never eaten at a place that does the smores thing, looks like lots of fun. I'll keep my comments about the girlfriend's hair to myself....

Can't wait to see the dress when it is finished. The smores look great. Haven't had the pleasure of making my own in a restaurant.

I bought some Gingerbread Graham Crackers, and made s'mores with them over the Christmas holidays! They were good, too! Love your blog!
