On Saturday, Meri & I clocked about 8 hours in the car. We left at 6:30am to head to Nebraska and help a couple sisters and my parents move a wee bit more into their new in-town home. They are so close now, I can taste it!
On our journey, Meri sat and hit the seek button to get to the nearest radio station, then keep hitting it until she came to a song she liked.
But that's what her "seeking" sounded like. Teeny tiny bits of songs, but she knew what she was looking for and she knew that that wasn't it.
Finally she was starting to get bored and I suggested she just hit the scan button. It plays 4 seconds on each channel before going to the next. Cool! So she hit that button and sat back to listen. Sometimes it seemed like 30 seconds instead of 4 when it landed on a talk show or music in a language we don't speak... Or country... (no offense to any of you country fans! I can be under the right circumstances.)
After a while we started liking just the 4 second snips. But it kind of got her upset when instead of just listening, I'd sing along and then after the radio had already switched to a new station, I'd keep up the old song and finish the next line or two until I couldn't remember the words anymore. Belting them out of course at the top of my lungs.
The radio scanning kind of cracked us up after a while when one station would finish the next line of a song or sentence. Kind of reminded me of those old Donnie & Marie skits! Remember when she gave instructions on how to wash your hair and he was giving instructions on changing the oil or some such thing?
I was 10 ok? It was hilarious!
I couldn't find that clip so here's the closing song.
Look... It was 10pm and we still had an hour left to drive... So we were getting a big goofy and her job was to keep me awake. We finally got home at 11:10pm and slept in a bit on Sunday. Luckily last Sunday was the last Sunday School class before summer break, so we didn't need to be to church until later anyway.
So anymusic, I felt goofy and so I sang and sang. Meri was getting sick of all music, but in order to keep me awake, she obliged me and went back to the teeny tiny snippet seeking instead of the scan.
When it comes to radio, I think all kids between the ages of 10 and 20 have musical ADD...

Hi there!! I am almost 50 and I am convinced that I have ADD when it comes to the radio! I'm always seeking, searching, scanning, repeat! LOL ;)
That's hilarious! I can not listen to an entire cd. If I put one in, I will listen to a song, and before it's done, switch to the next. And just do that the whole time. I bet it's irritating to my passengers. LOL
That is a funny game. I will have to remember it when I have to get Anna from school. I actually love the drive when I'm alone for 4 hours now. I can sing any song I want at the top of my lungs. Truckers think I'm crazy but oh well!
O.M.G.! I remember watching Donny & Marie, but haven't since it was on...my brain remembered every word of that song! How does that happen???? I was shocked!
Ummmmm...and how come Marie still looks the same on those weight loss commercials? Is that fair? I think not!
I totally have radio ADD and play with the channels all of the time. It drives my kids nuts. I used to watch Donnie and Marie...even had the dolls and the stage. Seriously...
hah! Such a fun game!
