Too Cute To Use

Have you ever been given a gift that is just so adorable that you don't have the heart to actually use it for what it was intended?

Years ago I was given this little set of pants made from two wash clothes with the following poem attached.
Now don't get excited,
Don't be misled.
These aren't for you,
But our dishes instead.

Just pull on the bow,
Take out the stitches,
You've gained two dishcloths,
But, you've lost your....britches.
Sorry for the blurry picture!!
It hangs on my kitchen wall... It's too cute to give up and actually use. Besides, I miss the wonderful lady that gave it to me and it reminds me of her daily. She didn't die, she moved away.

And my sister gave me a jar gift of a cookie mix. It was so sweet and cutely made that I didn't have the heart to actually use it either. It sits as decoration on a very dusty shelf from the looks of it...
I think it's probably past it's expiration date...

And then there's the gift that made a friend angry with me because the gift was too cute to use...

She had given me an adorable bag of bread or muffin mix that you're supposed to bake inside of a pot. I don't remember which it was, bread or muffine, but the ribbon on it matched my kitchen perfectly! I was doing the apple/red theme at that house.

The bag and pot sat on my counter looking sweet for a long time, but during some cleaning or redecorating got put under my kitchen sink. And of course that's when she came over and was looking for something there when she saw it. She was stunned.

"You never used this???" as she pulls it out from the cabinet.

So sorry sweetie! I lied to you. I said that I'd been given a second one recently. I don't know if she ever believed or forgave me... We were still great friends, but we just don't talk much anymore...

I'm sorry! But some gifts are just too darn cute to use!

I do the exact thing!! If it's too cute, I won't use it! :)

I use to do this until after 27 years of teaching, I ended up with way too many cute things not to use.

These are adorable!! I use to be the same way...saving everything because it was too cute, etc. but now knowing how short life can be, I use these things regularly and enjoy them. I had a 101 year old great Aunt who still at that age would pull out all her best china and dishes and linens for EVERY meal she served and did all the dishes not accepting any help. She was amazing and I still remember how special I felt as a child sitting at that table using so many beautiful things. :-)
Have a great night!

Blessings,
Jill

After my grandmother died, I cried because she did not use a scarf I made her, just sure I was making her something she needed. It took me years to get over that. I was just 17 when she died. I use things because of that. I still have the scarf and she died in 1963.

Use things!

Except, don't use the dishcloths. That will not hurt anyone's feelings.
