I just realized that it looks like I'm taking a blog break with that title... I'm not! I'm just in a trek-ky/sewing mood.

A friend from church came over yesterday with a dilemma. She's a grad student at the local college and a huge trek-ky fan. She found a Star Trek uniform costume and was determined to use it for Halloween, even though it was too small for her. She didn't care what I had to do to it to make it fit, but I had to stay true to the Star Trek genre. She's a Commander after all!

After pulling ALL the black pants off the racks at the Salvation Army store, she found one that matched pretty well and was stretchy. We measured a few times and determined that if we added a two inch band around the waist line, that should do the trick and lengthen the torso just enough that she won't have to hunch over all day. I believe she's wearing it to her classes that day!
I added 3 inches to be safe and it was too much, so we pinned it back to 2 inches and that was perfect.
So I spent my evening last night making sure all the chevrons matched up at the sides and back, the added stripe was exactly 2 inches all the way around and lowered the front of the collar because it was choke-y. Then put the lower part of the back zipper back in. It looks good!

Oh and I still need to add 5 inches to the hem. She's tall!

I never did get to the body pillow on Saturday. Meri & I had a sewing meeting that morning and a very fun wedding to attend that afternoon. We didn't get home until almost 7:30pm and were exhausted. But pleasantly satisfied from a good meal and good friends.
How was your weekend?
