Preparing for a Prom-enade!

Here's what's going on in this part of the world...

Lots of hemming, pinning, sticking myself with pins and lots of last second 5 minute house cleaning stints. I won't show you housecleaning pics because you wouldn't be impressed, so I'll stick with the prom dress progress...

Last night I was able to get the hem in the middle layer of the skirt. I found that the iron CAN be too hot for this fabric... and that when an iron falls off the board and lands on a plastic bag, it can get sticky fast...
Needs to be pressed, but there are 3 seams in that hem.

Everything is a learning experience, isn't it? For example, I've learned lots of bad words in the last few days...

And unfortunately so have the kids, thanks to me...

Above is the lining of the bodice, pinned in and ready to stick me. I mean, ready for me to hand stitch in. I'll try a blind stitch I think. Just in case I enter this in the upcoming fairs, I want it to look professional.

And as luck would have it, I found the "Made with love by Mom" tags to iron on inside! But that's not for now...

Maddy tried on every scrap of ribbon and lace that I had around my stash because she wants something across the waist, like in the original dress that we designed this off of before she settled on the white ribbon. I'll hand stitch that on when the lining is done. She purchased the sequined purse and a necklace in Kansas City last weekend to complete the outfit to go with her silver shoes.

Monday night, she and I struggled with the some clear square beads and invisible thread. Boy, did they label that thread correctly! Plus the fact that she didn't want the beads on the outside of the organza, but stitched to the inside of it, added a few levels of difficulty. These beads are heavy, so I don't want to give them up... But we're thinking about removing the few that we've barely attached and just sew them into the hem of the organza all the way around instead.

I may have a use for those JoAnn coupons after all... I've only got 2 sets of the beads.

I'll just promenade into the store, maybe Friday night... Who knows? This IS Wednesday, right?? I've been off kilter on days all week... Well, half of the week.

I'm a terrible mom next to you. Your house would have been a dream for Anna. She is crafty and loves pretty dresses. Maybe I'll send her to you. She is the easy child now because she doesn't live here. LOL

It is coming along! Hand-beading is definitely a joy, right? I've only done a little bit but it's been quite enough for me!
