Needs Salt Casserole

I thought I'd share what our versions of Needs Salt Casserole is.  My husband has a slightly different version, which originally dubbed the name.  I don't think there are other versions out there as we have invented it.

Here is his.

Dump the measuring cups and spoons out on the counter because the container they're in is the biggest one to cook rice in the microwave with.  And it truly is!  The rice will NOT boil over with this container!  I kind of use this method too, however I'll use one of the exact same containers that get stored in the cabinet in the laundry room...  It's always empty and we have 3 that we bought for Ryan's graduation several years ago for massive amounts of potato salad.

Put 1.5 cups rice and almost 4 cups water with a sprinkling of salt into the container.  Stir it and then microwave covered with a plate for 20 minutes.

While that's cooking, fry up about 1 lb of hamburger.  drain.

mix together with the cooked rice. Also mix in 1 can of cream of cr*p (as he calls it) and 1/2 can of either milk or water.  Layer sliced cheese on the top.

Get out your salt shakers and Voila!

A quick casserole done in less than 30 minutes and would shock the living daylights out of Rachael Ray!

My version

Get a big container from the laundry room cabinet.  The rice will NOT boil over with this container.

Put 1.5 cups rice and almost 4 cups water with a sprinkling of salt into the container.  Stir it and then microwave covered with a plate for 20 minutes.

While that's cooking, fry up about 1 lb of hamburger.  drain.

When both those items are cooked, mix together and add one can of cream of something and one packet of Knorr Vegetable Recipe mix and a handful or two of shredded cheese.  You can sprinkle more cheese on the top if you want.  I sometimes add a handful of frozen peas too, but that depends on who is eating with us...

So anyway, there you go.  Both versions.  The kids have gotten used to them and don't ask to immediately sit on the steps anymore...  They actually have said this is one of their favorite meals...

What is your "I have no idea what to make for supper, but I have to feed them something" go to meal?  Please let me know... I need ideas!!!

Love the addition of the Knorr soup!

I'd nix the peas - not my favorite:)

Have a great weekend!

Ham and cheese omelets or any breakfast for dinner is my 'I don't know what to make nor do I have time to think about it' go to meal around here. Only problem: I have one who doesn't like breakfast for dinner...

I have never cooked rice in the microwave. I should try it sometime.

If I'm cooking my gotta feed 'em something meal would be breakfast for supper or fried egg sandwiches. If Shane is cooking, it's ramen noodles with a beaten egg stirred in while their cooking. Kind of egg drop soup with noodles.
