Oh I love a rainy night!

Except of course if it's at the football game...

Friday night, Robb and Meri hit the drive inn for their closing weekend and Leon and I went to the football game to see Maddy perform with the band.  We got there early and managed to get a spot a few rows higher than we usually sit so I could get a good camera view of the field.

The band played the opposing teams song, turned around and did our school song, then one of the students sang the National anthem while the band played with.  As soon as she started singing raindrops started to drop...  I had Leon and myself wrapped up in a blanket that Meri had made a couple years before, but it was no match for the ginormous sized raindrops that proceeded to pelt us.

With another mother's help, I got off the wet bleachers with our stuff and high-tailed it to the car.  BURRRR!  Oh and there was lightening.  Not a good combo with metal bleachers...

He and I got situated in the car and I fed him a bottle whereupon he fell asleep immediately.  So Leon slept on me and listening to the 1974 flashback on the radio, I took lots of pictures of the rain on the windshield, trying to get a perfect one.  I was 8 when these songs came out and knew ALL the words to everything!  My kids hate that but Leon didn't mind.  He was asleep anyway...

I twisted around to see how far into the game they were.  The rain let up, but it was spitting every once in a while, so we just hung out in the car until half time.  Then I took just Leon, the blanket and my camera and went back down to the bleachers.

Did you know that after a rainstorm, the rain doesn't drain off graded bleacher benches very well?  My butt was drenched.  Again, BURR!  But who was I to complain when all the parents around me had been there the entire rain storm, sticking it out!  If I was frozen and wet to the bones,. they were lots worse.

Leon slept under the blanket the entire time I video taped the band.  Who by the way, had changed out of their uniforms after the first downpour and were all dressed in street clothes.

Maddy got a couple solos on the bells and her personal fan club at the fence cheered for her making her blush and laugh.  Kind of cool...

And that poor baton twirler out there in the cold with her bare legs and arms!  If she isn't home sick today, then I don't know what...

Then Leon and I got out of there and went home to warm up.  This was the last football game we'll see this year.  Now on to concert band!

Update on "the dress" tomorrow!

FYI-Steve kinda sucks at leaving interesting comments.
That was a crazy night! Anna was in cheerleading for years and that was terrible when you had to sit out in a mess like that. Yuck!

Very nice but I have a question.....I know Maddy can't on the vibes but does the marching band actually march when they play? lol

She sounds great! I stop doing rainy football games when my sons no longer play. Now, it rains, I go home. But if it was my kid out there, I would so be there too!

I spent some time in the car Friday night during our football game, and I didn't even have a baby with me! My teeth were chattering! You are a good woman!

Know I know why I always preferred to go the basketball games in HS. No rain!
