Using It For SOMETHING!

I found a skirt in the Burda magazine that looked too simple to be true.  Super cute and Maddy thought so too.  So as usual, I used her as a guinea pig for my first attempt.  I figured if it turned out good, then I'd make more for some nieces for Christmas.  I'm ALWAYS thinking!!!

I could NOT find the magazine this morning...  Do you KNOW how many Burda mags I've got in my house??  You'll have to go with a sketch artists rendition.

It was also Super easy!   Basically a rectangle tube that is the exact size of your hips.  Hemmed at the top and bottom and then with belt loops to cinch at the waist.

I made this one out of some stretchy red with black hints fabric.  Turned it inside out for the belt loops because the backside of the fabric was black.  Perfect.

Sewed it together in less than an hour, even interrupted.  I even had Christmas music on in the background and was singing along.

Got it done and later that evening I had Maddy try it on.  She was confused about the belt loops.  Maybe I should have made them narrower...  Anyway, it was way too short too.  What was I thinking??

We thought about it for a minute and I suggested that we pull it up higher and make a top out of it.  Use a silky scarf to go through the belt loops and tie them over the shoulders as straps.  She asked that I don't try and make her look, in her words, "skanky" and didn't even try that suggestion..

She thought of using it as a cool scarf.  It did look pretty cool around her neck.

I suggested going a little higher as a turban, but she didn't like that one either.

So now the skirt I made is a scarf.  She wore it to school today.

Oh hell.....just leave it lying around and let the evil cat pee on it(the skirt/top/turban/scarf, not the girl) so you can throw it away. ;-)

Dang, it sounds like even *I* could maybe make that.
