2012 Rambles On Past

Well.  As you know 2012 is almost gone and the world hasn't ended yet.  Darn.  Now I'll have to clean the garage.  I had been holding out hope...

Got a new mattress for Christmas from Robb!  It's a memory foam thing and came via UPS in a round package that I was certain was a trampoline until I sneaked a peak at the label.  The old mattress is still in our bedroom waiting for two grown men to both be home at the same time and awake.  While it sits, I've pulled it from one side of the room to the other in order to sew, then back again so we can get to the bed.  The new mattress is comfortable enough, but is taking some used to.  Rolling over isn't nearly as easy in this one...  And if you sit on the edge, the edge gives way and you find yourself on the floor... lol.  oops!

On Saturday, Maddy and I went fabric shopping for some sequin fabric or fabric we could glue sequins too for a Sweetheart ball dress.  I've got 1 month to get it done!  After finding NO sequin smothered fabric like she wanted, we checked out the sequins on a string.  It would have taken a hundred yards of the stuff, 3 years and 20 gallons of beer to get it done.  She decided to go back to the drawing board, so we browsed through the pattern books until suddenly we both said OOH at the exact same time.  We found THE dress!

Here it is.  We're making it in Cobalt blue crepe backed satin.  Maddy likes her updo, earrings and chunky bracelet too... So she'll do a bit more shopping when it's done.  Oh and she has a date for it!!!

The very next day, Vogue patterns went on sale for $3.99...  Isn't that always just my luck.  And I KNOW this because we had to go back for some lining and some other sew in interfacing.  While we were there, we got a couple more McCalls patterns for little boy clothes.  You never know when I'll feel like sewing for my little grand-monster!  *that's a term of endearment!*  *He's like Godzilla in his walker in the kitchen...*
The instructions called for hair canvas interfacing.  Couldn't find any, so we're substituting.  It's probably not the right substitute, but oh well.  The mock up dress I made looked very nice on her.

We all have colds right now.  Leon is the only healthy one at the moment.  Probably because he gave it to us...  Kleenex is running out...

Have a great last day of the year!  I'm going to frantically be finishing up work projects that SHOULD have been done a few weeks ago...  Hopefully.  Work has been crazy and nothing ever goes as you plan.

Happy New Year!

I couldn't convert the hubs to the memory foam, so it was back to the regular mattress for us! Good luck with yours. LOVE the dress!

I would have said, "Oooh!" too! Can't wait to see it. Glad you found something else. I would hate for you to lose your mind over sequins so early in the new year. ;)

Oh my....haven't heard the term "hair canvas" in ages! So what are you substituting it with? I have an idea if you don't....

Happy 2013!

We have a Sleep Number bed and I love it. Never want anything else. Shane had the bright idea to put a 2" memory foam topper on it and I hated it. Made him take it off and put it on the bed in the RV instead, which WAS an improvement.

I hope you have a Happy New Year, and for the record, I have NEVER heard the term "hair canvas".

I have a sewing question. I know now pick yourself up off of the floor. LOL I'm trying. Where do I get shirred cotton material? TMI but my back is killing me and my MIL and I are going to try and sew me a shirt that will hold me in place.;) Well, my MIL will sew and I will cheer her on.
