I mentioned on Saturday night we attended our annual Norwegian feast at my besties house.. Well, I found the pictures!
Below is the only pig she kept from a huge collection of various pig items that she'd had for years. You have to stop a collection when someone hands you a pig item and says, "When I saw this I thought of you!" So she had me sell a LOT of it on Ebay several years ago. She kept this one. It's just TOO cute!
Below is Lefsa. You buy it at the local grocery in hard little circles folded in half. From what I understand you let it rest inside a damp kitchen towel for a while until it's soft. Not too long or it turns to mush. Then spread butter alone or add sugar with it. If it's butter alone, you then wrap up cod, corn and mashed potatoes inside and eat it like a taco. YUM!
I will say right now, that that was Leon's favorite dish! With the sugar of course. And in looking back, that might be what caused his diaper issues on Sunday...
Next we have Lupskows. I am confident that I'm spelling this incorrectly because my spell checker wants to say it's actually cowslip. It's a shredded beef dish that is deliciously salty! Leon hates it... even when mixed a little bit with mashed potatoes.
I didn't take a picture of the mashed potatoes or the corn, because too many bland colored foods in one post is illegal in some countries.
Then the main course!!! Boiled cod! YUM! Oh and did you know you can just pour melted real butter on everything and it is delicious? *melted butter* *melted butter*! mmmmmmm.... I hear my calves saying AHHHHH...
And coincidentally, Cod was also a hit with Leon! And in hindsight (pun intended), THAT might be what caused his diaper issues on Sunday...
And as usual, Norwegian table manners were the rule of the day! If you're 100% Norwegian, please correct me if I'm wrong... But you're not supposed to have ANY table manners and just grab what you want. Is this true? Or is Mike just pulling our legs?
I was so stuffed at the end of this meal, I could barely take seconds... But managed to also tuck in a Kringla cookie too!
Then we all went into the living room and exchanged gifts. Do you know what mine was? A mug that says, "If you would just do as I say, then I wouldn't have to be so BOSSY!"
I know... some of you are probably thinking, "I would be SO insulted!!!" But coming from these guys, I had to laugh and have used it for my cappuccino every morning since.
And of course, there's a story behind it...
A few years ago, Ada ordered a cabinet. When it came, it was in pieces and you have to fit groove A into groove C- and so forth. It was as confusing as filling out a FAFSA form.
Mike and I attempted to put it together while Ada read the instructions. I think I must have started getting testy.... Because as Mike recalls, I said, "Just do what I said!" I'm sure I said it was more like, "Mike, can you please put those two pieces together for me?" sweetly of course...
lol! So every once in a while, he just mutters something about how he just does as he's told and we all laugh about it. And don't get me started on how I had to talk him through shutting down their computer over the phone!
The mug was earned...
So.. the moral of today's story. Don't get testy with a Norwegian when cod is on the line.

Okay, so someone in my family used to collect pigs...sad thing was they resembled one so it was hard to watch. I never gave em one. Yikes.
Well the good thing is she had a collection of them when someone saw one and "thought of her".lol
And look at you being all assertive and bossy.
I found a FB page you should join....."I'm not bossy, I just have better ideas."
I'm told you can sell ANYTHING on ebay. I would sell my portion of the cod. I don't like fish.....
So interesting! That little boy is sure getting big quick! Wasn't he just born yesterday??? Lol. I hope you are having a wonderful week!!
Blessings,
jill
Poor kid and diaper issues. But it sounds like he is a great eater!
I'm sure I have earned that bossy mug more than once!
