She told us after the concert that she made 50 friends in the 8th grade because of that sweater, just last night alone. And when you're a lowly 7th grader that the 8th graders normally look at sevvies in disdain, this is really something!
Maddy showed off Leon to all her friends and some day care kids from where she works.
Also, between the band and vocal concerts, the music teachers entertained with some jazzy Christmas songs! Wow... there is some talent here!
During the vocal part, Meri had a solo! She had had to audition for it and researched really hard to get the part. I know you're thinking, why research?? Well... the Christmas song was in Nigerian and she wanted to come up with a solo part that had an African sound to the words. So she translated what the original song was and wrote her own. Then she and her dad used Google translate to find an African language that she could pronounce and sing easily. The vocal teacher was impressed and gave her the part.
She isn't singing here, they'd just lined up and were getting organized...
Next time, we've advised her to grab the microphone and sing her heart out, because I think she stood a little too far away from it and was kind of quiet. And me, having some hearing loss, couldn't hear her too well. But we're so proud of the work she did for that solo!
Afterward there was a book fair and I bought a few things for Christmas presents. I won't be telling you, because my kids and husband read this as well as a couple other family members.... Like when I blogged about the poncho I made for a niece and my sister called me to say it was adorable! BEFORE her daughter received it... So if you're reading this, Hi Kristin!!
Well, back to work. Got lots to do today.

So cool!! Sing it sistah! :)
Congrats to Meri for getting that solo.
I'm sure getting that part helped her rise in the eyes of the 8th graders too. ;-)
She really did put alot of work into it, didn't she?
Maddy looks like she can be Leon's mother!!! Oh guess I shouldn't have told you here but in an email.....Sorry, but seriously, that's what her babies will look like some day ;o)
Many congrats to Meri!
Congrats to Maddie!!! Woo Hoo!
Sevies? Is that what they call them? That's new right? I've never heard it before.
