Sew Here We Go!

I did some sewing on Sunday. NOT a lot...  There were a bunch of other things that I needed to do that I won't bore you with.  Let's just say three birthday parties in a weekend wear me out!  Yes, Leon had a 3rd party on Sunday night too.  We celebrated with chili.  He didn't have any.

Anywho...  I started on the shoulder and breast area

of this dress.

And here is the sample so far....  There is a 5/8 seam allowance on both sides, so it's not as wide as that...

What I'm discovering is that the boobage part is going to be underlined with the black fabric and I'll be able to use the sequiny fabric to overlay it quite easily.  Then you hand sew in the lining for it.   It's not going to be too bad.  I think the only REAL challenges with this dress is working with sequined fabric WHEN we find the right stuff and then trying to find time to fit my daughter in it.

She says she has time in June...

That's not going to cut it, I'm afraid...

We're doing gold sequins over black chiffon (if we can find the right stuff) and then the rest of the dress will be black.  It's going to be beautiful!  I think.

Here's what I've found so far for sequiny type fabric.

and then the black/gold on this reversable sequined fabric.  You can run your hands up the fabric one way and it will change to black, run it the other for gold.  It's also $40 per yard....  I only need 1.5, so maybe... Since I got this sample on FB, I can't link to it, but it's Kaplan Fabrics out of Kansas City.

 Which  do you like?

I've seen that sequence fabric before! I have a student who has a headband that is covered in it. Though at 40 dollars a yard, seems like a lot of money to cover a headband. Any way, it really does work like you said, move it one way its one color, move it another way it's another color. Looks cute!

That reversible sequin fabric is so clever! I like the idea of being able to change the color with a whisk of the hand.
