About A Dog
Once upon a time, my daughter-in-law brought home a stray. Ok... We're talking 1.5 weeks ago immediately following the town's festival fireworks display. She was working at the DQ and found this dog running around in the highly busy traffic in front of the restaurant. No tags, name, nothing...
So it's late at night. I got called in to work about the time she came home from work. I saw a big mass of a dog sitting next to the front door and figured it was Ellie, our golden. I also figured the kids hadn't kenneled her up when they brought the dogs in... It happens...
But Tiffany told me about the dog at that time. I thought, "g.reat... another dog in the house!" Robb's reaction the next morning was a little different. "We shall call her Temp! As in Temporary!..." She was a beautiful dog! Old and obviously well loved by someone. Who would groom a dog like that if it wasn't a beloved pet?!
I mean... We rarely groom our dogs!!
We thought that maybe if the dog was so well groomed, maybe they'd also gotten a chip put into her. But the vet was closed that morning due to the parade...
So the next morning, Tiffany suggested that we take the dog to the parade and either have the dog walk through the whole parade with her, Leon and the DQ gang or sit with us. We opted to have Temp sit with us, since we couldn't find Tiffany in the mass of people in town anyway. She reminded me of Old Yellow Dog from the movie, Funny Farm. Just laid around... I didn't think she had enough energy to walk through a parade anywho...
Before the parade, I took the above picture with my cell phone and slapped it on FB. Hoping someone would recognize that dog!! No bites before the parade... While I was running across the street to catch a photo of Meri marching, a man came up to me and tapped me on the shoulder. "I know whose dog that is." he said.
???? This was equivalent in my mind as him saying "I know what you did that summer!" Wha??
Then it registered. I had forgotten about Temp! She was sitting at Robb's feet across the street. The man was the husband of a FB friend of mine and has a daughter who is a friend of Maddy's and in jazz band. I've probably seen him around at all the Jazz band competitions... Apparently the dog belonged to their neighbors who had just moved to town. He gave me the address and I relayed it all back to Robb when I got back to my lawn chair.
After the parade, Robb picked up Meri at the meeting place and then took Temp home while the rest of us went and hunted down Kumla! *melted butter... melted butter... yummm*
Temp's owners were an elderly couple and had been frantic for the 12 hours that Temp, I mean Ally, had been missing. Early that morning, they had plastered both towns with signs about her! And apparently she was overdue on her medicine. Like I said, the dog was old. Oh and Oh so loved!!! The man and woman both cried and hugged her something fierce. The last 12 hours had been hell on them!
Then in a complete surprise to Robb, the husband gave him a hug too! whoa.
Ally had been so shocked by the fireworks that she came out of her "Old Yellow Dog" state and climbed their fence in fear, running into the night...
About a week later, a card came in the mail for our family. There was a very nice letter inside and reward money! ?? Wasn't expecting that!

Such a sweet story about humanity and taking care of our four legged friends. It just goes to show, you do get rewarded in not only helping an elderly couple out but also in money ;o)
That is an awesome story!!!!! And you and your family are pretty awesome too!
I'm so glad Ally found her way back home! I can only imagine how grateful her family was that you cared for her so well. What a lovely story.
ah this story warmed my heart. He was part of someones family and it is nice that they sent the card and reward money. Now that I have my first "official" pet I can see how quickly that bond develops
