Early Saturday morning, around 5:45 or so... I headed out to the open road alone. Meri and Leon were going to come with me, but Leon was running a temp AGAIN for the 4rd straight day. I was headed to Western Iowa to take my dad home after knee surgery and I didn't think he should be exposed to whatever virus Leon was going through.
So with the dawn at my back and corn to to my right.. and left... I headed out to get my daddy.
Stopped by one sister's house (where I forgot to pull my camera out...) to pick up my mom, then another sister's house to pick up a walker.
My sister, Kristin, was out for a walk with her two kiddies AND their kittens! I've never in my life even considered taking a cat for a walk... but the Brookster, below, wouldn't have it any other way!
THEN to pick up my dad who was waiting patiently after having been discharged about 30 minutes before we arrived. He was READY to go home!
Of course my camera batteries were exhausted by the time I got to their house, so I have NO pictures of them or my other sister Teresa who arrived that afternoon... Except for this cell phone photo of their tv.
My priorities are sound...
While Dad napped in his lounge chair, my mom and I picked tomatoes and filled up my cooler. Teresa made salsa with a lot of them and we had lots of fun picking on each other in the kitchen while we worked. At least I *think* she was kidding... Almost like old times except we don't punch each other in the arms repeatedly. Wait, that was another sister...
I made some disgusting apple crisp. Too bad the recipe was on the computer monitor in the other room. I think I guesstimated some measurements wrong.
During dinner, we watched my Mom and Dad's 50th wedding anniversary video that Teresa's husband had made 6 years before. I still cry watching it. Wonderful memories and those darn sappy songs ALWAYS get to me. I'm just glad it wasn't the song, Christmas shoes!
Dad had a rough couple of days after his total knee replacement, but from what I hear now, is doing so much better as each new day starts. He sounds peppier on the phone too! I'm so glad!
A shot of the toll bridge crossing from Nebraska back to Iowa. My cell phone through the buggy, grimy windshield. Sorry!
Even though that bridge has freaked me out ever since childhood, I love it. The hum of the metal under the car makes you think it's sucking you over the side...
Got home LATE Saturday night and my family was still up waiting for me! What a shocker! Leon had awoken and wanted to sleep with his Grammy! What a little ball of furnace HE is... He's much better now.
Sunday I had to show Ryan part of that anniversary video where he was a toddler in the bathtub with his cousin and dancing exactly the weird little way Leon dances! I didn't know dancing was in the genes.
Tomorrow I'll show you that I still know what a sewing machine looks like and still remember how to thread my serger!

I'm glad your dad is doing better. I've heard it's a pretty painful recovery. I'm also glad Leon is better.
I want to learn how to sew knits with the serger my friend has here for me to sew on for her business. It's supposed to be much easier, but I need a great tutorial to take me through step by step.
What a busy weekend! Glad everyone is doing better. I do NOT remember how to thread my serger. I need a refresher course. oh, and That video sounds like a true family treasure! -Tammy
Glad your dad is doing well. Always stressful to reverse roles and take care of parents!
"My priorities are sound..."-hahahaha.
I'm glad that your dad is on the mend!!!
