Sucking up a dress

I made the modifications to Meri's dress the other night and waited for a chance for her to try it on again.  Finally cornered her this morning before she got dressed for school.  It's going to WORK!  Since the center of the front bodice was pleated and had a seam up the front anyway, I took the skirt off, pulled the pleats together and stitched a new seam.  It pulled the shoulders in to the right place and made her feel like she didn't have to pad her bra with a hand towel.  Oh and I took out some of the front gathers.

Took some out on the back too.  She said that it had looked like she had back boobs.
How much more blunt can a 14 year old be??

So I've got the final bits to do.  I've got lunch today, this evening, tomorrow evening and Saturday to fine tune things.

1) take one pleat half way out on the back of the bodice for each side.
2) Put in neckline facing.
3) hem skirt
4) fix the panels on the lining the same way that I'd done the skirt and attach.
5) hem lining.
6) fix back right above zipper so the zipper pulls up right to the white part.  It's off JUST a little.
7) hand sew on the hook and eyes.  I'll need two sets on the back.
8) possibly add some elastic where the bodice and skirt meet...  Not sure on this.
9) take in the sides by another half inch.

Nap.

Oh and I need to get the house in somewhat ship shape for some company this weekend, but that can happen Saturday morning.  No big.

Hey!  When Meri, Ryan and I were moving the bedrooms a couple weeks ago and I kept blowing a breaker when vacuuming, a funny thing happened...  The vacuum decided to take a sabbatical.  We'd had it 16 years, I was shocked that it couldn't go 10 more!  I figured I killed the motor on it.

and no.  I hadn't vacuumed since then...  Been busy...  and no company came...

So before I threw this very expensive vacuum in the garbage, I thought I'd try one more trick up my sleeve that I'd learned in the last couple years.  I replaced the plug part of the cord.  I had a spare end lying in a drawer and it worked!!!  5 minutes later, we have a good vacuum cleaner again!!!

My vacuum is red and an older model.  But basically the same.

It might be a heavy clunker of a vacuum, but it works really well and is dependable.
I might invest in a tune up of it and who knows?  Maybe we'll get another 16 years out of it!

Awesome that your saved your vacuum!!!! Take the cash you saved and go out with hubs. You can probably squeeze that in today, right? After all the sewing and the nap!

Glad to hear Meri's dress is going to work! Also glad to hear the vacuum is repaired. I seem to go through them on a regular basis.
