Relaxing by Partying

We got home from Wisconsin on Saturday, early afternoon.  My parents, sister and niece left after a quick bathroom break for their next leg of the trip.  I crashed on the couch, thinking, "HEY!  I think I might relax and read a book for a few minutes!"

But then my cell phone rang.  On the local Facebook swap page, I'd contacted someone who was selling a little tykes tool bench for $10 and they were wondering when I'd come by to pick it up.  Oops!  Forgot about that!

So Robb, Leon and I left the girls at home, picked up the tool bench, stopped for a Super Soaker with a backpack water tank for the birthday boy and headed to the party that started at 3.
We got there just a little late.

The birthday boy was sobbing on the front steps when we showed up.  Apparently his 5 year old sister could blow up a balloon, but he wasn't capable.  Plus he missed a nap.  He's turning 4.  Then he popped one and things weren't pretty for a while.  Leon and I roamed their farm, chasing chickens, seeing the ducks and watching BBJ's (Birthday Boy Joel) dad work on his grill so they could cook the food up.

Leon played with Joel's toys and kittens until the big sister insisted we start the party games!  If you've never played "Fill the 5 gallon bucket" before, you just HAVE to!!!  I'm going to set out a couple in the front yard from now on just for this very game...

They put two 5 gallon buckets full of water on one side of the yard and 2 empty 5 gallon buckets about 10 feet away.  Then split the kids up into teams.  Leon, Joel and a little girl Leon's age were on one team.  Big sister and her cousin on the other.  Then they were all given Red Solo cups and told to take water from one bucket and fill up the other one with it.

The race was on and the kids were dead serious...

Until it got towards the end of the bucket and we had to keep them focused.

Leon decided that he wanted to dump the water on their electric fence and the driveway instead.  The electric fence was turned off.  THEN he took the filler bucket and dumped it on himself.

Joel's team won!  His big sister was NOT happy!  It was her turn to cry.

While I changed Leon in the bathroom, everyone else was singing Happy Birthday to Joel.  We missed it.

BUT Leon got a cupcake, and you know how he loves them!  And since I hadn't planned on him getting drenched, all we had for him to wear was Pullups and his half soaked t-shirt.

The Super Soaker with water tank was a HIT!  I got nailed with it from the BBJ himself.

We left around 5:30, picked up a few groceries and headed home to feed the girls.
Needless to say, we all went to bed somewhat early that night.

That's a great game idea! Nora and Ava are having a country fair birthday party this weekend. I have a feeling it's going to be pretty hot (really?)so this would be something to keep the littles cool. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds like a fun game. Could we turn it into a drinking game? LOL
