A little Hamlet in your day

Due to Bible study getting cancelled last night, Mom, Meri and I headed off to JoAnns to do some fabric shopping for Meri's Sweetheart dress!  FUN!!!

I found the pattern, which we'd already bought, but pulled it from their file cabinets for reference.  Then Meri and I hunted through all their specialty fabrics, printed silks, everything.  She even found some fur that she thought would make an interesting dress with.  Or polka dotted burlap...

It took a while to get her serious...

While we were perusing, one of the girls working there asked me why I don't go to the big city JoAnns anymore.

HUH?  Who ARE you??

Apparently she used to work at that one and the girls and I DID go to that one once just before Christmas, but haven't been there since a few years earlier...

THEN she remembered which store she worked at that she knew me from.  And Maddy should know which store, because she went with me once and this girl was saying "You haven't been here in a while, how is your grandson??"  When Maddy and I left, Maddy asked me quietly, "Do you KNOW her??"

Not officially...  So Maddy was a little creeped out that the girl presumed to know me so well...

So anyway, here is the fabric that Meri and I picked out after 1.5 hours of browsing, bickering, sulking, oohing and touching the fabric.
The blue one.

It's a lightweight crepe satin in peach, because Meri loves peach.  The entire dress will be that, but the bodice will be overlay with the grey lightweight lace.  I really hope that works!  Meri tried the peach and white lace and I suggested, Hey!  Let's try this one before we settle and she fell in love with it.  I don't want to cover the whole thing because there are some interesting pleats in the skirt and the lace would drown them out.
What do you think?  Is the lace too much?
It will be one layer over the peach.
Shown here is about 16 layers...

I haven't sewn together the practice dress yet to make sure it fits, but will do that tonight.  Will probably cut into the good stuff tomorrow night or Saturday night.

Hmmm..  To lace it or not to lace it?  That is a good question!

But I also have a good seam ripper.

I think the JoAnn fabrics girl is a stalker. Kinds sounds like it or she has a wonderful memory and you did talk to her and forgot her. LOL
I think the dress is going to be perfect! They always are. Maybe you will even enter it at the fair.

I love that fabric. I was once planning to make a crepe back satin dress with lace overlay on the bodice. Then found out my date decided to take someone else.

I didn't make the dress.
