I needed to make something with THIS for my sewing group challenge coming up on Saturday. I had the whole afternoon on Saturday to do it. So I dug out the challenge fabric and started day dreaming about what to do. My bestie had given me a brilliant (I hope) idea so I ran with it.
Wow what a challenge! Don't tell the folks that picked it out, but I am NOT a fan of the fabric... We're supposed to use a 4 x 40 inch swath in an outfit somehow.Be it a lapel, hair tie, something.
As I brainstormed, I thought of how the ladies in my sewing group LOVE The Sewing Workshop, a website with patterns from independent pattern makers. There are always new interpretations of various patterns from The Sewing Workshop being shown at every meeting, so I'm hoping they recognize this design!
It's the Ivy.
So I got to work on making up my own pattern. A few hit or misses later, I had my pattern pieces ready for action.
Then started cutting out my design. Any idea yet what I'm doing with it?
Barbie clothes!!!! I made a whole top out of bits of the sample. I couldn't stand the flowers parts, so I fussy cut around them. I didn't realize until this morning that I need shoulder darts for it to fit her better. I'll do that tonight. I also bought some velcro so that the back seam can be closed. Currently it's using the dressmakers secret weapon of a safety pin.
She looks stylish and natural!
I didn't have a conversation with Barbie, so I don't know for sure if she likes it, but she looks happy enough.

Yep. She looks happy to me!
OMG! So cute! My first forays into sewing in elementary school were making Barbie clothes.
She's workin' it.
