On Sunday, when we got Leon back and after church, Meri and I went to find her photos at the mall to see what ribbons she got. Since she'd had to work when I dropped them off on Friday, she had non-conference judging, meaning she wasn't able to talk to the judge personally about each photo. So she got her first white ribbon, which is a "Glad you brought this, but couldn't you have done better?" ribbon. She was pretty bummed until she got to the next aisle and saw that two of her photos got purple, which is "Awesome" ribbon and one of those purples got an orange dot, which means, "This has the potential to go to the State fair!"
We'll find out next weekend.
This changed her view point and made her realize that it wasn't her schmoozing that got this photo to purple with an orange dot, but the quality of the photo itself. YAY! It's probably a good one! And it really is...
None of the stores we really needed were open yet, so I took them to Fazoli's for a quick lunch. Leon dropped his pizza slice on the floor and they gave him another for free! His tears is what did it... And then later the smile that he gave them through those tears when they brought him a new one. Cool. It was actually too hot to eat so we got it to go.
So while Meri got her hair trimmed, I took Leon to the Shoe Carnival to get him shoes for an upcoming wedding. Leon gets to be the RING BEAR! While we were there, he was a complete booger. It took all the energy I had left to corral him long enough to try on some tie up black dressy shoes, which he proceeded to practice stomping in. Then ran off to ride on the Pooh plane. With the shoes on...
I guess they'll work...
PLUS they were only $5 (YEAH! Can you believe it??!) so our work here is done! While I was busy checking out, Leon stood by the candy. The manager went over the loudspeaker that there was a sale on certain shoes in the center aisle and I happened to glance over at Leon. He was looking up at the ceiling and suddenly yelled a little worriedly, "WHO ARE YOU?!!"
I had to share it with the manager and asked him to say something in to the microphone again so Leon could see and hear him. The manager said, "Just say anything?? or what?!" Anything. So he did the same spiel and Leon stood in amazement and just stared with a goofy smile on his face. I told the manager that Leon thought he had been God earlier. A co-worker walked up past us and assured us that the manager was indeed not God. So Leon giggled & talked about it all the way to the car.
Amanda and her fiance stopped over that night for a quick bite to eat before heading to Minnesota. She tried on the sample dress and it's not going to work. I got the adjustments to make written down and will make another stab at it tonight. Maybe get her twin to come try it on this week. We'll see.
Oh and she gave me permission to use it in the State Fair the day after her rehearsal dinner!!! So I'll get it that night and get it one hour dry cleaned the next morning before going to turn it in.
Yay!
Gotta run. Looks like another crazy busy day.

Yay for Meri! I hope the photo is chosen for state. $5 shoes? Can't beat that. And I guess hearing a voice on an intercom is something we take for granted. Funny reaction from Leon! Yay that you don't have to sew another dress for the fair!
great deal on the shoes and tell Meri well done on her photos. Could you share them with us on your blog?
Congrats to Meri. I thought it would be the one of Leon-both the clarity of the water splash and the face to go along deserves a prize.
I've always admired your family for participating in your state & county fairs. Congrats to Meri on her ribbons.
Fazoli's...I loved the big bucket of spaghetti & breadsticks to-go. When my babies were babies & it had been a long day, I'd ring up DH & ask him to stop by on the way home from work. Sadly, our Fazoli's closed. I have to make spaghetti myself. Sigh. ;)
Your stories of Leon crack me up. Good luck with the dress! Hope the next round of sewing is just the right fit.
