Quotes from my parents.
Mom & Dad and two of my younger sisters.
"If you're bored, that means you're boring."
and yep - if you can't think of a single thing to do, who wants to hang around that?...
"Don't be too busy to do what's important."
yep - if it's important to you or to someone you love, you better carve time out of your day and do it.
"SS"
sit or stand straight.
"You can't polish a *urd."
That was my dad talking about my old rust bucket of a Pinto. I spent a lot of time at the car wash to make it look snazzy when our dusty road was going to wreck what little progress I made anyway.
"Get those wedding thank yous done soon!!! It reflects poorly on your parents!"
We ended up paying my (temporary live-in) sister-in-law to write out a bunch of them for us.
Not all, but a lot.
"Do you want a potchie?"
Potchie was a code word for swat on the butt. So if Mom had to reprimand us in public, it sounded like a treat!
To someone outside of our family, I'm sure they were thinking,
"What's a POTCHIE!?? I want one!!!
"CLEAN your room BEFORE you decorate it!"
My bedroom was a pig sty. But hanging up posters and photos was more important than picking up dirty laundry. And more fun!
"If you can't think of anything to say, how on earth will you be able to carry on a conversation with a date when you get one?"
This was for those sullen teen moments in the car when I didn't want to talk to Mom.
My attitude has changed.
Why is it when I open my mouth, my mom comes out?
I must have listened once or twice...
Oh! I forgot the best one. As we were moving apartments, my mom was scrubbing the floor where the fridge had been, "You know.. You can't move every time the house gets dirty."
Words to live by!

I was aghast the first time my mother came out of my mouth! Now I know how right she was about pretty much everything. I guess that's called "experience"!
Love it! We all have those kinds of sayings in our families that make us us. ;)
They sound like wise people!
She comes out all the time. When she was alive I was aghast when it happened. Now, I kind of sigh and say, "I sound like mom."
