So Friday night, I had all the intentions of spending the entire time sewing. As soon as the homemade pizzas were done, the feeling went away. I relaxed and visited with Robb and Meri for a while. It was nice.
On Saturday, after a morning of the weekly housekeeping chores that I try to put off, I got picked up by Jules and we headed to lunch and a movie. We saw the Accountant.
Ben's been typecast. But it was a good movie with good company! And she was impressed with my predictions throughout the movie including the ones I guessed wrong. And she has no idea who Shane from The Walking Dead is, so my recollection on where I knew him from was lost on her.
Oh well.
I talked her into stopping at JoAnn's on the way back so I could get some fabric for my parent's quilts. Got Marine's fabric for my dads and teacher fabric for my moms.
Here are some of the squares done so far.
Saturday night, when I ran out of hand print blocks, I forged Maddy's since we won't see her before this has to go to the quilting people. I did it in sucky colors and after showing it to her on our Skype call, she's asked me to redo it.
Will do!
It felt good going to bed on Saturday night having made progress on the quilt! I've got 2.5 out of 7 rows done so far. Just need more nieces and nephews to get their squares mailed back to me.
On Sunday after church, I knuckled down and started in on Meri's prom dress. I had the whole afternoon, minus a visit to my bestie's, to sew.
I made tracks...
The bodice and bodice lining are done with the lace attached. I haven't sewn the lining into place yet.
The satin skirt is put together and the lace overlay is put together. I laid them on top of each other and was blown away at how pretty it looked. I texted Meri right away and told her. She hurried home and was VERY pleased. WHEW!
Then Leon got home and no more sewing for me!!! Maddy got on a Skype call with us and demonstrated, using Matthew, how to gut a chicken. She'd helped some friends on their farm clean 50 chickens that weekend. I've done it before and can I say, "YUCK?" Matthew played the chicken part very convincingly and I do have to say, he's a good egg.
Leon and I then went upstairs to watch some spiders capture Bilbo and his friends for a little while. I really thought that would freak him out and he'd be sleeping on our floor if not our bed that night, but he stayed all night in his own bed! Yay!
Off to a fantastic day today! Hear the sarcasm... Talk at you later, hopefully!

After reading the post title there is no way I could even think about skipping this until later!
I love the quilt idea. It is such a sweet and personal gift, and is truly timeless.
The benefits of having a larger family is lots of quilt blocks. Ours is so small it would require everyone's left and right hand plus both feet to have the required number of blocks for a quilt. And it would still be a small quilt.
I love love love the dress. Can't wait to see it finished.
The quilt idea is really wonderful. Gutting chickens? Gross!
Love the dress. I am so busy I want to cry.
