Six whole days!!! I feel like I've been gone forever...
A lot happened over the course of the last several days but I just checked my work emails and yikes... I've got a lot to get caught up on. It doesn't pay to be off 3 days of work...
So, I'll let you know what I did last night. I found a couple patterns in my Burda mags that are KIND of similar (in pieces) of the dress pattern that Maddy picked out but won't arrive until probably Friday. So I wanted to check on sizing as much as I could before she had to leave. I made a sample top. As I did that, I realized that her size was almost (if not the same) as mine when I was her age getting married... hmmm..
I ran out to the garage and brought in my 29 year old, boxed wedding gown.
Hey Mabs! Get up here!!
She tried it on. It was a little chill from the garage, but she was a trooper. And it zipped up like it was made for her... wowza. Well, she is shorter than I was at that age, but it was still a smidge short on her!
I think it's the wrinkles.
She asked if she could wear it if we redid a few things, but I thought she wanted her own and she agreed. Plus the bodice neckline was a bit more revealing than she liked.
AND you shouldn't do things that you THINK or suspect someone else wants you to do. No one can read minds, people!!!
She did like the train, but not the booty bow.
Forgive the state of the house. Apparently we've been robbed...
and I've been sewing...
She tried on the veil too and was blown away by how 80's it looked. Well, yeah... that WAS the era...
Blast from the past has done got us in the mood for the future.

You both are stunning in the dress. Yes, we were a little over the top in the 80's; no lack of fabric! I've offered my dress up to m girls to use as they choose, but would love to get a picture of them both in mine before either would splice and dice it, or put it back in the bag.
Wow! I have to agree with SAM's comment, you both look great in that dress!!!
Everyone is right! Y'all both look beautiful in the dress. And what an exciting time for everyone involved. I kind of envy the MOB position, the excitement and planning. Except for the money part. I don't envy that at all.
I never even thought of wearing my mom's dress, but she and I have such opposite tastes in clothes plus hers was a waltz length dress. (Mom had an afternoon wedding and also has great legs so she chose a shorter dress and the highest heels known to man.)
I have no daughters, so my dress will just languish in the box it has been in since the day I wore it. It was so basic that it could be worn right now with very few modifications and not be dated, Now I have to rethink why I am even keeping it.
Robbed while you were sewing! LOL! My married daughter got married at the courthouse and told us later. Our other daughter does not appear to be in any hurry to marry. But I would have not been making a dress for either. They got the clothes snobby jean from their "real" mom and would not dream of wearing "homemade." Their loss.
Everything you make is beautiful!
It's so surreal when your daughter can wear your wedding dress! (Was I that small???) You both are beautiful in it. I never dreamed Rebekah would want to wear my dress. But she did and with a few adjustments she made it hers.
First of all I'm amazed that you could just go to the garage and find your dress just like that! Secondly, how cool to see your daughter in your dress!! I love the back view on her. Those robbers didn't take much.
I wish my daughter could have worn my wedding dress. But, she is three or four inches shorter and heavier. I was very tall and slim and the dress was a lace sheath. It is wadded up in a box with other stuff.
The too-low neckline could have been fixed, even if with an insert. I was married in 1966. The style could be worn now.
You both looked very pretty in your dress.
