Squinting forward to 2021

Robb and I had gobs of money in our cafeteria plan for 2020 that had to get used up before the end of the year.  I guess we'd anticipated that we'd get sick or have medical bills this year and just didn't.  It was different when the kids were living at home and on our plan...  There were always visits to the doctors or other urgent matters medically to get taken care of.  Not so when it's just him and me on it.  We do have a houseful but it only covers mostly just us anymore...

So Robb set up some eye appointments for us both.  The first one I've done in a LONG time, probably since I was a kid.

I've always had good eyesight and only needed reader glasses for the past few years when I noticed that while reading my phone on the toilet, the words were blurry in the mornings...  and eventually I started wearing them ALL the time because I noticed that food tasted better when it wasn't blurry.  I can see long distances just fine, it's just the stuff close up.  Like the computer screen nowadays.

I joked with Robb later that I should have pulled a Father Jack during my appointment.  If you don't know who that is, you really need to stream (like right now) the Father Ted series.  We are HUGE fans!

So anyway, I have to get bifocals now!  Can you believe it?!!  I'm only 54.
Oh shoot.  I'm 54.  That's when all the stuff starts breaking, huh?

Robb picked out a couple new pairs of glasses and so did I.  And suddenly the amount left in our cafeteria plan is significantly less.

After that appointment, we headed over to my hearing test that I'd scheduled.  I figured if I hadn't needed glasses, maybe hearing aids could use up the cash.  Well, now that the $ is draining away, hopefully I didn't need hearing aids...

I took the test and let me tell you...  there were some LONG awkward pauses between beeps on the left ear...
Shoot.  Again... I'm 54.

So it's no wonder that when I lay my right ear on a pillow I can't hear anything.  My left ear is drastically different than my right.

Probably won't get a hearing aid in 2020, but we probably won't be lowering our cafeteria amount for 2021.

I hope you are getting progressive bifocals! They are great. When I got my glasses due to needing them to read, I did not put them on except to read, but I read all the time. Once, I put them on to read a menu and forgot to take them off to eat. I was so pleased I could see the slaw, all the little pieces. So, after that I put on my glasses in the morning and took them off at night. I like seeing my food!

When I started wearing glasses, I discovered I could hear less well. Years later, an article came out confirming my discovery.
