A lot happened in the month following the Italy trip and it'll be kind of random.
My bestie Ada, that lived in a nursing home, that I've had lunch with every other Monday for the last 27 years, that we've watched Dirty Dancing, Witness and the Wizard of Oz with countless times together, that lately we've had lunches also on Fridays with, went to live in heaven with God.
The week before she passed, she'd been choking a bit on normal food, so they were about to switch her over to soft food. My other friend that has lunches with her too and myself were asked to not bring food to her anymore. Her appetite had dwindled and they were trying to get more protein into her.
So I had lunch on Monday with her, each of us with our own food, and I showed her all the pictures of the trip on her tv and told various stories about them to her. She didn't act bored with it at all and seemed to enjoy seeing all the photos.
That Wednesday, she passed. I can't tell you how much I miss her!
I didn't know her when this photo was taken. This is from when she taught school.
Have you ever had a friend that you could tell just ANYTHING to and they probably had had the same experience at some point in their life? She understood everything I told her and she told me some stuff too. I'm wearing the hand lotion that she gave me for Christmas today.
One of the best things that Ada would be happy to miss is the dental surgery she was scheduled for the next week. She hated dentists since she was a kid. Her childhood dentist didn't use any anesthetics. Can you imagine?!
Maddy googled Ada and found her wedding announcement for the newspapers. She held a bouquet of daisies so we ordered a bouquet of them for the funeral from our family. They were given to the church following the service and after they started to wilt and were taken down, I hung them to dry in my kitchen.
She was the 2nd person after Robb that I told when we found out we were expecting Meri and then ultimately she and her husband became Meri's godparents.
I met Ada at a ladies spring luncheon at my church one spring after we'd joined and Ada liked to say that I invited myself to her house for lunch and we kept it going for 27 years! There was a time during my pregnancy with Meri that Ada and I could polish off a large pepperoni pizza between the two of us!
Ada had been a teacher before MS hit her and before I knew her. So she tutored Ryan and Maddy for a year or so when they were young.
Before Robb passed, he went out to Ada's husband's house every Friday to fill up his Tivo for him as he didn't have internet. Since Robb passed, I've been going out to his house and filling up the Tivo every 10 days or so with the payment of a Diet Dr. Pepper. Same payment as Robb got. :) On some hard work days, Robb got 2 DDPs. I'm good with just one.
Her funeral was lovely and the church was packed. The internment was for mainly just for immediate family but her son said that I could go along if I wanted.
It's been a weird couple months and I miss her.
