Blood, Statues and Sewing

Well, the blood letting took three hours yesterday morning... YIKES!
The platelet/plasma/blood thingy was having problems and a tech was working on it.  So I didn't get in there until almost 40 minutes later than I should have.  I had a conference call at noon and was a few minutes late getting to it from their lobby.  Sitting there with a needle in your arm is pretty awkward when you're doing the potty dance at the same time...
"Please get this thing off me!"

Leon and I took his dad to work yesterday afternoon and had to make a few stops afterwards.

He's got a complimentary Jolly Rancher in his mouth for this one...

TAKE MY PICTURE GRANDMA!

I let him play at a park while I finished my work and until Robb met up with us.  We took him out to eat at a pizza buffet and were all stuffed afterwards.  SO stuffed that he couldn't finish his breakfast this morning...

Then Bible study whereupon Leon fell asleep on the short drive there and slept until I placed him on the couch at home.  "How did I get here?"

I had to jiggle him awake so he'd have some play time with his Dad before we let him go to sleep for reals.

Regarding sewing, a very dear friend at church is downsizing her possessions and gifted me with her (only used once) serger and a couple bags of fabric stash!!!

We really need to help her move more often...

I can't wait to try it out!

AND a friend of Maddy's will be coming by on Friday with a bridesmaid dress for me to alter for an upcoming wedding.  So I'll be sewing this weekend for fun and profit!  Woohoo!

Anyway, back to work and some projects that I've put off successfully since before Hurricane Irma.

Have a great Wednesday!

Hanging Around

So Leon and I drove his dad to work yesterday afternoon and I decided to take him on an adventure.  I worked from a bench at the park while he made friends and played tag on the playground equipment.  When I wrapped things up, I showed him all over the park.  There is a band shell where they still have bands on hot summer nights.

No one yesterday, except for this little rock star!

Then I took him with me to the blood bank and gave blood.  While I was waiting for a nurse to come back to me, I saw him grimacing and trying not to cry.  My laptop battery had died on him...

and that is pure torture when you're in the middle of HobbyKidsTV videos!!!  So I ran out to the car and grabbed my power cords and set him up in the lobby watching more of them.

Got my blood drained in relative peace.

And I don't know why, but he thinks the mat that we have on our floor in our bedroom is more comfortable than his bed.  REALLY?!!!  There is no logical speaking when he's determined.

Thankfully Meri came upstairs about that time and in an additional Birthday gifting mode, she took Leon downstairs for a sleepover.  However they watched Coraline, so I'm not sure if he'll be down for sleeping in his own bed tonight either...

HEY!!!  ANOTHER SLEEPOVER WITH MERI!

AND I just found these pics on my phone from the weekend.  Swimming in the lake for Leon.

AND these awesome people.  Maybe that's why I've been melancholy lately...  I miss her and she's 5.5 hours away...

sigh.

Hanging in there in Iowa.  Have a good one!

Giving Blood Makes You Preggers.

Well, my blood type is rare.  Who knew??! or remembered???!!!
Only Robb apparently and the blood donor people.  They called me looking for my BA Lood...

Remember Charlie biting his brother's finger?!  Hilarious!

:)

but anyway, I'm usually borderline anemic and sometimes get rejected before I even give blood.  Once it was afterwards.  REALLY?!!  You have a whole pound of my blood but then throw it out??  sigh.  They said "NO" to putting it back.

So I've been pumping iron.

Two tablets a day.  Not an overdose of iron like I did a few years back!  That could have killed me.  Thank goodness I know the reaction I typically have to iron and had eaten something else at the same time to ward off effects!  Right now I feel like I can take on any chore you throw at me.  I'm feeling that good!  I really need to take iron all the time...

So I'm giving up my BAlud right after work.

But I have to be careful!

The first time I gave blood at a blood drive, they said I was pregnant ...
Then Ryan was born roughly 9 months later.

Where's Popeye When You Need Him?!

Someone called me a couple weeks ago to give blood.  Why not?!  I've done it before and it's no BIG deal... As long as I don't look at the needle as it's going in.

So we scheduled a time.

I went last night.  Filled out the paperwork, talked with nurse, let her poke my finger and take a smidgen of blood.  We chatted some more and then the results of my finger prick came back.

Iron level - 86%...

It's the low end of normal for women but needs to be 88% in order to give blood.

I was

You know that feeling as you walk out of the blood drive bus with blood intact in full view of the kids and parents of kids that you know, who are successfully having their blood drained?...  Do you feel like rumors are going to start to fly now?  Some of those questions on the form get pretty personal about certain aspects of your life!

I guess a brat with chocolate cake was the wrong choice for lunch...
