My girls are working hard trying to perfect their 4H projects for the county fair coming up in the later part of July.
Meri has made a loaf of bread each morning in the bread machine and is getting closer... The tops are caved in, but it still tastes great with some butter or jelly on it! Good thing she's still just a Cloverkid, so they won't critique her too badly. She does have a month to get it right tho!
Maddy finally picked her baking project and decided to master the art of bagel making. She's in the kitchen right now figuring out how many teaspoons of yeast equals a package. FYI: 2 1/4 teaspoons equals 1 package of active dry yeast. I always buy in bulk from Sam's so I never buy the packages anymore.
So my dieting plans for the summer might be flummoxed... WAY too many carbs around here! I will have to invest in some more cream cheese tho.
This year, Meri is entering about 12 items. Mostly photos, but she's entering bread and chocolate no-bake cookies, then tons of projects she's done at school and at home.
Maddy is entering 12 photos, bagels, a few home improvement projects for her room, the clothing selection, fashion show and will play "Once upon a December" for the Share the Fun talent show. Oh, I almost forgot. She's also taking pictures of every item of clothing she has and is making a flip book so she'll know what items go together and what she needs to purchase or sew for her wardrobe.
Ryan is entering 12 photos, writing a song for the music area, clothing selection with the $15 challenge, fashion show and will play a song with acoustical guitar for the Share the Fun show.
This should fill up their summer!
4H projects and scenes of the past...
Maddy did the fashion clothing selection and fashion show in early July in 2008. She wasn't going to do it again, but Ryan wants to do the $15 outfit challenge, so she's going to now.
Maddy had admired the dress worn in the Nancy Drew movie and wanted to make a vintage looking dress as close as possible to it. I really didn't think these fabrics were going to work together, but they really do and look very cool. The dress fits both girls this year. Here is Maddy getting judged on her photography, early July at the local mall.
Ryan made Salsa one year. I think 2007. It was SUPER spicy and what my husband terms "a butt burner" salsa... The photo above was taken for the jar label. The remaining salsa didn't last long at our house. Very good!
Meri having fun and cooling off at the fair. "Luke! I am your father!!!"
This is Meri's little doll house she made from a box and a piece of shingle for a roof. You can open the roof and there are tiny pieces of furniture inside with some little dolls. She's a creative little thing!
Here's Ryan's salsa and write up. Oh! I had forgotten he'd gotten a purple ribbon on that one. It did get an orange dot for state consideration, but never made it.
