Ok - My camera was misplaced until Sunday afternoon when my daughter found it in her Nancy Drew pack... Unfortunately, if we'd found it 30 minutes earlier, I could have had a picture of our god-daughter and us after a confirmation... Oh well... my sister promised me a picture from her camera... So these photos are definitely late...
Anyway - Memorial Day. Every year we attend the ceremony out at the cemetary. Since my daughter is in the marching band, we definitely attend! After several moving speeches about men and women in harm's way, a couple local kids singing or reciting the Flanders Field poem and someone singing along with a country singer recording, we listened to a military officer read off all the names of the men and women who defended our great nation and are no longer with us.
With sadness we hear Robb's dad's name read and someone places a wreath of poppies on his cross.
Then the soldiers give their 21 gun salute, followed by taps played by a girl in Maddy's band.
Following the ceremony, we headed back home to prepare for lunch with some friends. Every year, we make peach and pork kabobs on the grill. Oh my, is it good! We also made drunken peach cobbler, Famous Dave's style.
What a beautiful day! To all the men and women who are currently and have served our country, I salute you too! and Thank you very much!
