Last night I got a hold of the last American Sewers Guild lady that will going on the all over Iowa Fabric shopping trip on Saturday with me. While chit chatting with her, I found out that the deadline to submit sewn items for the Iowa State Fair was LAST Saturday... Crumb.
Well, I think I'll shift my gears then and start sewing for the girls for fall now then. Maddy has already ordered a black vest and pencil pouch from me, so we'll see what we can do.
In the meanwhile, I thought I'd show you some stuff that I'd been working on for the fair, but maybe now Maddy can wear for her piano performance at the State fair instead.
It's the same pattern as her confirmation dress that I made this spring, but the front ruffle part is higher so she won't feel so self conscious in it.
The hem I did a different way so that it would be a VERY small hem. .. I don't want it TOO short for her! I serged the very end of the hem, then rolled it over twice and ironed it, then top stitched. That was the quickest and tidiest hem I've ever done! It looks VERY nice.
I was in the middle of making a matching hat for the fair with the microsuede from the skirt below and left over fabric from the dress. The camera flash made the skirt come out really light, but it's really very dark deep brown and matches the dress fabric really well.
Maybe when the hat is done, I'll use it for a contest here on my blog! I'll try and get it done on Sunday and then start a contest on Monday. Keep watching my spot here!

Your kids are lucky to have a mom to make them such nice clothes.

Pretty stuff! You make me want to get my sewing machine out again. Maybe soon.
You are so talented!!!! I wish you were my neighbor and could teach me how to make some fabulous things...
You sew beautifully! I don't have the patience for such tiny hems :)
Those are gorgeous!
My hems look like that crooked road in SanFran. Yikes!
By the way: the shirt at the top?? Can you make one of those like in a size 3 thousand X for me?? I love it! :)
How clever you are to be able to sew. I'm all fingers and thumbs with a needle.
Very pretty. I always wanted to learn to sew, but don't have the patience for it.
This look so cute. I'm sorry you missed the fair :(.
Great work! Very envious here.
Happy SITS Day! The dress is adorable.
