Winner Winner Steak Dinner!

So I was in the car this morning, listening to a random station that happened to be on.  They had a contest with a phone number to call in with a guess.

The question was, "18% of people would quit social media rather than quit what?"

Some people guessed chocolate or some other type of food.  But the first thing that came to my mind was Netflix so I called in with my guess and I won!

I won a dinner for two at a steakhouse in Des Moines.
I don't even know where the radio station was out of..

But yippee!  We're going out for steak sweetie!

Boos and other Boos

A few weeks ago, I signed up for some Adagio teas in a contest put on by my dear old blog friend Jill, at Blessings of a Stay at Home Mom.  And I won it!!!!
YAY!!!

It just arrived a couple days ago and I finally had a chance to go to the mail box in the middle of a rain storm yesterday to get them.

It's all loose tea in cute little tins that are reminiscent of Scentsy containers.

Six different varieties.  I can't wait to dig in!
And isn't this adorable!?

Then last Saturday, my ASG sewing group had their special fall event.  We learned all that there is to know about making your own bras!  Camilla showed us many different patterns and ways you can make bras that will truly fit you.

We measured ourselves and found the right info to make a bra that will work for ourselves.
I sent Meri these pics and she picked out which one she wanted.  That girl is ALWAYS wanting new bras and here I am, wearing one that is older than she is...

Here's a pattern that I purchased.  Not sure when I'll get a change to start sewing on it, but it's here.  Probably in January.

The ladies were so funny.  They're saying, Now won't the December Style show be something else this year??!

ummm  nope!  I won't be modeling it!

Oh the random things you'll find...

When you finally get the mail!

We have a locked mail box across the street. We used to have one in the big line up of various mailboxes at the end of our dead end street, but they put this one up so we switched. The other one got hit a couple times... by me... If you pull too close the boxes, your car may slide a little in the snowy slush and take one out. Ours happened to be on the end and I nailed it. Someone else uses it now and I'm sure appreciates the extra little twist we put into it...

Anyway, since Thanksgiving, I've been pretty busy. YES! Too busy and lazy to walk across the street and get the mail! But it's been so blustery around here lately. Sometimes if I'm picking Meri up at the school, I'll stop and let her get it, but work has been crazy busy this week and I've been in a rush to get back to my office, so I've skipped it.

So yeah - it's been since a week ago Wednesday... The box was jammed packed! Those holiday magazines are like rabbits or coat hangers when in small places... Wow!

Well anyway, We got a wedding invitation for my nephew's wedding this weekend. Good thing! I thought the wedding started earlier in the day, so maybe now we won't have to leave at 2am to get there!

I also got a pretty pink envelope... Hmmmm.... Wonder who that's from!... Something stiff inside like a credit card, but my name and address are hand written...
Look what I found inside!!! A.Marie over at MyMoneyMissionOnline had a contest on Facebook a couple weeks ago. She goes by a different name there. So her contest consisted of, "The first person to comment with my name that I go by on my blog wins a $5 gift card at Target."

Woohoo! I knew!!! and entered the contest about 30 seconds after it was posted. It truly made my day as I was having a bad week. and now it has again! Thanks A.Marie!!

Go check her out guys! She's got great ideas on saving money.

Anyway, I'm going to be scarce today. Got lots of projects (both work and home) to wrap up in the next 2 days and precious little caffeine... Have a great Thursday!

Contest! Help me celebrate 135th post!

I'm giving away something I've made! No, it's not one of my kids... Altho sometimes....

I made a hat that I was "going" to show in the State Fair, but missed my deadline, as you all know... So I'm offering it up as contest prize. What do you think?

The hat started out as a skirt that didn't fit quite right anymore.
Micro-suede brown with floral cotton lining and accents. It can actually be reversable if you like the floral part better with a micro-suede band.

Final product...

Tada!
It will fit a person's head that is aprox 22 inches around comfortably.

Contest rules...

To enter this contest, please leave a comment on this post and tell me what the favorite part of your summer is. Or just any comment...

To get your name in a second time, mention this contest on your own blog and link to it. Make sure you let me know that so I can enter your name again the 2nd time to the hat.

As a third bonus, if you add me to your list of blogs that you follow, I'll add you a third time. If you're already a follower, you'll get that bonus automatically!

Then I will put all the names on bits of paper (in the hat!) and have my daughter draw the lucky winner! The contest will end on the evening of Wednesday, August 12th at 8pm. 3 days from now.

Get your entries in and GOOD LUCK!

Oh Crumb...

Last night I got a hold of the last American Sewers Guild lady that will going on the all over Iowa Fabric shopping trip on Saturday with me. While chit chatting with her, I found out that the deadline to submit sewn items for the Iowa State Fair was LAST Saturday... Crumb.

Well, I think I'll shift my gears then and start sewing for the girls for fall now then. Maddy has already ordered a black vest and pencil pouch from me, so we'll see what we can do.

In the meanwhile, I thought I'd show you some stuff that I'd been working on for the fair, but maybe now Maddy can wear for her piano performance at the State fair instead.

It's the same pattern as her confirmation dress that I made this spring, but the front ruffle part is higher so she won't feel so self conscious in it.

The hem I did a different way so that it would be a VERY small hem. .. I don't want it TOO short for her! I serged the very end of the hem, then rolled it over twice and ironed it, then top stitched. That was the quickest and tidiest hem I've ever done! It looks VERY nice.
I was in the middle of making a matching hat for the fair with the microsuede from the skirt below and left over fabric from the dress. The camera flash made the skirt come out really light, but it's really very dark deep brown and matches the dress fabric really well.
Maybe when the hat is done, I'll use it for a contest here on my blog! I'll try and get it done on Sunday and then start a contest on Monday. Keep watching my spot here!
