To be or not to be... What a silly question!

We were in such a euphoria last night. I worked out at the antique mall yesterday late afternoon, trying to re-merchandise my booth and make it more appealing. When I got done, I thought, Hey! Why not invite your eldest son over for supper!? So I called him. I'm so glad he was home! I picked him up and brought him home with me, then asked Robb (hubby) to make supper. He had been out of town all weekend and this single parenting thing pooped me out.

After supper, I let Maddy drive as we took Ryan back home. We'd had a good time visiting and he found a couple more things in the house that he wanted to take off to his new home... Cardtable, underwear, you know.. the important things. Maddy is doing a very good job of driving, even in the dark. I think she'll be ready for her drivers license next October without any problems.

So anyway, back to the story... After we dropped Ryan off, Maddy flicked on the radio to 104.1, our favorite easy listening channel. The music was a Christmas song! A real oldie! You could almost hear the scratching of a record needle on it, it was that old.

The screaming began and she almost drove off the road. Remind me after she gets her drivers license to have her stay off the road until well into the Christmas season....

Oh, make no mistake... it was happy screaming! We love Christmas at our house. The girls can't wait to put up the tree and they want it now... Maddy and I sang along with the Christmas music all the way home and didn't get out of the car until The First Noel got done at full blast. Then she dashed into the house to turn on the radio inside so Robb and Meri could hear too. Robb was thrilled... (dripping of sarcasm here...) He doesn't believe in Christmas music before Thanksgiving... but I do. I've heard it!

Maddy and I discovered something about ourselves... We do love the Christmas music, but you know what?! When a whole 10 months pass, we've forgotten a ton of the words. We did a lot of "sounds like" words and la la las to fill in the blank areas that we've spaced out on throughout the year.

I think there is only one cure. To listen to as much as possible in the next 2 months and relearn them all.

So this morning, Maddy came upstairs looking very dejected. Apparently the Christmas music was only on the Delilah show and only last night. SIGH...

It DID get her in the Christmassy mood tho last night and she emailed me a Christmas list of suggestions...

Our Christian Radio station played a whole day of Christmas music on October 31st...their treat to everyone. I loved it. I'm kind of glad it wasn't for the long haul though. Maybe closer to Thanksgiving.

I've definitely been feeling a little Christmasy myself the last few days, though I also feel a little guilty because I am one of those "no Christmas before Thanksgiving" folks.

And speaking of Christmas music: I cry for help will be going out from Cheap Wine and Cookies at some point during the Christmas season to hunt down a Christmas song that I LOVED as a child, but cannot find ANYWHERE, and haven't been able to for years. The song is "Christmas in Kilarny." Finding the song itself isn't so hard, but finding the right version, the one that reminds me of my grandpa, the one from when I was a kid, has proven damn near impossible. It sounds like it's sung by a leprechaun and has a whole little thing in the middle about Johnny MacGee sitting on Santa's knee and trying to pull off his whiskers to see who it was.

If you know who sings this version, I will love you forever!

Last year a local radio station here started the 24/7 Christmas songs on Nov. 1st. I LURV holiday music, unlike the other 4 people in my family so I was thrilled. Everyone else, not so much.
This year I tuned in on Nov. 1st and nada....not doing it again.UGH
So I've been playing my Christmas CDs for 10 days now. The doggies don't mind my taste in music.lol

I used to play Christmas music year round for the kids to fall asleep to. They love it. But they also turn the radio on and just dance around too.
