Yes I DO sew!!!

Hi all! The kids are getting better and are eating solid foods today. My husband asked me, "For a sewing blog, you don't post much about sewing..." Hmmm.. Guess not! Life comes at you in a rush. As you know my sewing room is now a sewing hall. It's awkward... But I did get things out this past weekend and am sewing on the girls Easter dresses.

For Meri's, I've done a muslin, well kind of... I've made a sample dress out of some fabric that I knew I would never use, just to get the sizing right. I plan to do the same thing for Maddy's as soon as I can pin her down to measure her...
The one on the right is Meri's. The fabric is below and I got it for free from my American Sewing Guild group. I bought some lining for it that matches and a side zipper. The sleeves will have to be adjusted, but really the size I decided on is fitting her well. The blue and white contrasting one is the dress that Maddy picked out. It is strapless, but we're going to either make or purchase a shrug to wear with it. This is also our first attempt on a future prom dress for her. It takes covered boning strips in the bodice. The bodice will be the blue/black/white fabric below with black for the skirt and waist. See what I mean? It will definitely take measurements or will fall off her...Oh! Tomorrow I get to meet one of my bloggy buddies in person!!! Yay! Also tomorrow is my day on SITS! Enjoy your St. Patrick's Day week!

Jealous of your talent, but still have no desire to sew.

Those are going to be beautiful dresses! I so wish I had the time/energy/motivation/skill to sew . . .

(And I love your "sewing" blog. To be honest, I probably wouldn't have nearly as much to comment about if it were all about sewing).

I LOVE your sewing blog! :-) Those dresses are both really pretty. The style is similar to some I wore in high school! OMG! I have been around long enough to see my high school fashions come back into style.

I used to love to sew. Now, I kinda miss it.

My mom made me a dress similar to Meri's when I was her age too. Funny how some things come back into style.

Looks like I'm a bit early to read your SITS day post but happy SITS day anyway! How exciting.

Funny... our blogs sound somewhat alike. Mine started out as a sewing blog but turned into much more than that. I'd love to have you visit!

Congratulations on your SITS day!
It's great to have a seamstress in the family, your girls are very lucky. I totally took my Mom's sewing skills for granted. Unfortunately, she did not pass them on to me.

Happy SITS day! Looks like you have some good projects ahead. My mom tried to teach me to sew, but all my dresses looked like sacks. :) You don't seem to have that problem! I checked out a few of your other posts and saw a gorgeous confirmation dress. Happy Sewing to you!

I admire anyone who can sew! My mom is extremely talented but that gene didn't get passed to me.

And ps - hedgehogs? I'm an *huge* fan of all animals (my blog is about them). But I've never known anyone who actually keeps them. Interesting.

Happy SITS day!

Writing about sewing dresses for your girls brought back fond memories of my mom making clothes for me! Then my grandma made a quilt of all the bits and pieces of everyone's outfits. I still use it every night and will see a little square and think - hey! That was my shirt in third grade! :o)

Happy SITS day, enjoy! I am a mad sewer too, and I know how frustrating it can get trying to work it around the kids.

Wow, I'm impressed. Sewing clothes scares me. All those curved lines and things. Me, I'm a fan of straight lines. Kudos to you! And happy SITS day to you as well!

And I so wish I could follow a pattern.

This post makes me happy and I haven't even read it yet. I love patterns and feel lucky that my mom taught me the language so that I can read them! I know so many people who sew and are super crafty, but they can't read a pattern.

That top pattern gave me the motivation I needed to get my Easter dress cutout.

I'm working on quilt right now. It so fun to be sewing something again. It's been months since I worked on a project.

Hi.. I enjoy your blog and share you sewing hobby. When I was pregnant with my first child and had lots more time (b.k. before kids), I was able to sew lots of maternity clothes. Then when my daughter was a pre-teen it was fun to teach her to sew.
