1st day of school blues...

Well - they're gone. The house is quiet until my son wakes up. Maddy left early with Robb so she could help greet freshmen with balloons and hugs (I think... she wasn't too clear on the 2nd part). She's on the student council and got to give a mini speech on their orientation night Monday.

So Meri stayed with me and I made her her favorite breakfast and a 1/2 cappuccino, because that international foods coffee stuff is expensive! Tomorrow she'll have to make her own breakfast again like she has for the last 2 years. She's an excellent cook!

THEN she started getting melancholy...

"I think I'll stay home with you."

"Today's not a good day to start 5th grade!"

"It's a new building! I'm going to get lost! I don't know where to go!"

But it was all said with her grinning at me behind her massive lock of hair that was hanging over her left eye. (SOOO Violet from the Incredibles, that one...) I think she wanted to see if I'd fall for her nervousness. She's only been talking wistfully about going back to school since the middle of July!

Um yeah... Sorry! You're going. Unless of course you want to see your mom thrown in jail for not obeying the law... Ain't gonna happen chicky!
Since the girls were leaving at different times today, we took the 1st day of school pics last night with the sun glaring in their eyes. Meri is wearing a different top today tho. I thought a sweater top might be too much for August.
She left me a note in the car as I drove her over to the middle school. My baby is going to miss me!!!
Kudos to you teachers out there! You guys are so brave to be dealing with 5th grade mood swings!

The first day of school always makes me so sad because it sort of marks the end of summer. And I love summer! Maybe we can hold onto the warm weather for a little longer.

I love first day of school pics. My mom took one at the start of EVERY school year and now they are so fun to look back on.

Don't be sad. Just think of how much work you can get done today....oh, wait....that would make you sadder. LOL!

The girls are so cute and I know will have a great first day.

I'm happy when Kat has a day off, and I'm happy when she's in school. Hmm...that would mislead one into thinking I'm happy all the time. ;)

Your girls look so pretty in their back to school duds! I'm sure all of you will have a great day!

Maddi is aloud to wear shorts to school? Boy don't tell my sons, there were no shorts worn where they went.

I hope Meri had a good first day of 5th grade.

My little Ellie will be starting 5th class here in Ireland. She reminds me of your Meri. Only two more years and she'll be in secondary school. I'm already worried about it and it's two years away. What is it about our babies that we worry more about them?

awwwwwww...I hope everything went OK. My son started at his new school (first year of high school) - and I've never seen him come home so happy from school. It really is an amazing place-- I'm ready to enroll myself :D
