Then Saturday after making 100 ham balls with my church lady friends for a dinner on Sunday, I lost my ambition to finish the skirt for a while. Dug out some turquoise silk dupioni fabric I had and made two necklaces for a couple nieces for Christmas. What do you think?
Then when the mail came and I STILL didn't get my Salsa blouse pattern in the mail, decided I better start on the wedding gift. I made matching placemats for my nephews wedding. I'm going to spray them down heavily with some waterproofing spray so they'll clean up easily.
Last night I started sorting through my fabric boxes in my sewing room and moving in. Doesn't look like my son is going to move back home in the next few weeks and I need to get this room ready for company over Thanksgiving. It was nice going through the fabric and thinking about what I could possibly make from certain pieces.
This is just one side of the room. The other side has the same number of shelves and is just as stuffed. I need to make more things from my stash, don't I?For those of you who pour through sewing magazines, you know how there are articles telling you how to make mittens and purses out of old wool sweaters? I've asked my husband, how many old wool sweaters have we got just laying around? NONE. Who does?? That they're willing to cut into??
I got my hands on two wool blankets from Freecycle.org on Sunday. They're both pretty old, but one of them has a very nice pattern on it and should make some interesting things. What do you think I could make out of it? Purses? Scarves?
Maybe it's too itchy for scarves. Maybe not.. This one is drying on the hammock and the other one is being washed currently. They were both pretty dusty and smelling funny. I'll have to start rummaging through my sewing mags to see if I can find that article now!Have a great Monday!

I agree those necklaces are adorable...I can picture it with earthy brown knit twin set. Or even super bright orange! {On a brave day that is!

My mom's quilting room looks the same way. There is fabric everywhere. I have no idea how she finds anything!
I don't sew. Although, I have a wonderful Pfaff my hubby bought me when I decided I wanted to TRY sewing. I stink at sewing. Although, I made a few rotary quilts and they turned out well. Once kids came along, my quilting went out the window. I have teenagers now. Maybe when they get married I'll take it up again?
My mom and my sisters sew. My mom is AMAZING! You remind me of her. She has a sewing room like yours. Scraps. Lots of 'em. Loads of different material. She's made wedding dresses, dolls, bags, blankets, crafts, clothes - you name it. You'd like her.
That blanket looks like it would make an amazing purse! I may not sew - but I LOVE purses...and I see a purse in that blanket!
I still don't know how you do it all! I'm always in need of a nap after I read what you have done and then you turn around and work all week. Please share your energy with me!

I love the color turquoise so yah, those necklaces are 'da bomb'! I think the silk fabric just makes them moe "special".
I have needed to go to JoAnn's for bias tape to finish fixing some t-shirts. I hate the high necks on my t-shirts so I cut them down but I need to finish the edges. I am sooo glad that Halloween is over now and I can go to the fabric store again! Because of my previous life when I was Asst. Manager of a fabric store I just can't bring myself to step foot in a fabric store for the month preceeding Oct. 31st.lolol
But I digress....
November and I have STILL NOT FINISHED A SINGLE SEWING PROJECT this Year! ARGH

Here I felt proud of my 4 lousy pillows...I won't feel like I'm a real sewer until I can make a piece of clothing. LOL
Reading through the magazines is one of my favorites! I love to find new ideas!
