Sew the season!

On Saturday I had all afternoon to sew. I worked on the sample Salsa blouse. I got it all done except the sleeves and decided to try it on. The front panels of the blouse overlap each other. The bottom panel buttons at the hip on the opposite side of the blouse, then the top panel overlaps and buttons at the other hip.

For those of you seamstresses out there, you probably try the pattern on (kind of) before sewing.. right? Well. I didn't try this on for size until the sleeveless state it was in. Bad idea I know... I normally prefer loose clothing... and... it was tight.

How tight was it, you ask?

It was so tight you could see my heart beat... It was so tight you could count each of my vertebrae in my back bone... It was so tight the rolls in my back looked like the Loess hills of western Iowa....
Yeah. that tight!

sigh.

Good thing I had done it with the sample fabric! But in my head I was thinking that if the sample blouse came out good, I'd just use that because the colors in the pattern matched my skirt pretty well! Well, I've offered it to Meri and she very well might wear it for her school Christmas program. Fits her pretty well! Now I need to make her a matching skirt... OH! By the way! She tried out for a solo in the program and got it! Can't wait to hear my baby sing!

Also luckily I had traced the pattern out at what I thought was my size on the type of wrapping paper tissue. That stuff is awesome! and worked perfectly! The original pattern was still uncut and I can make whatever sizes I want off it without cutting into it. So I pulled out more tissue paper and traced out the next size up. That should add enough on the back and front to make it more comfortable for me to wear and then I cut it out of the good stuff. Haven't had enough time to sew it together yet, but that's for lunch time tomorrow and probably the rest of the week.Sunday night I got in the sewing mood again, but not for the blouse action. I made a pair of mittens and is the same as the wool potholders I made last week. Then last night got these made up. Check out these slippers!!! What do you think? Found the pattern for the slippers at this site.

I did a quick embroidery of the Christmas recipients name on the bottom of the slippers. If you embroider, don't look with great detail there... Like I said, it was quick while I watched Chuck last night. I found a little bag of bells that I bought for some project years ago and now they jingle!

Well, there are my projects from the weekend. I am determined to make all the gifts this year for extended family gifts. And hopefully with fabric I already have on hand. That's my way of being frugal, so we'll see if the nieces and nephews all gang up on me...

Cute ideas. I am hoping to get my sewing machine out after a lot of year of not using it. My older girls used the machine and do not live at home anymore. I used to make Christmas and Easter outfits for my kids. Now I would like to start with smaller projects to get in the groove again.

Congrats to Meri on the solo!

And my 1st thought about those 'elf slippers' was that whoever received them for xmas would no longer be able to sneak to the kitchen late at night for a snack.....yes, my brain is wacky!lolol

You ARE a seamstress! I used to make everything I wore and I never made a sample first. I guess I was too lazy. LOL! But everything always fit.

I sewed this weekend, too, but only a little.

I remember finding out about tracing patterns on tissue paper from a friend after I had been cutting them for Rebekah for years. I wasted so many pattern sizes. Now I whip out that tissue paper in a heartbeat. Cute slippers!
