I live on the Polar Express...

Life is a rush. If you don't know what that means... live with us for a week or two. You can't stop it. Things happening every minute of the day. Well during the holiday seasons, it's 8X as busy.

But you know that... because I tell you...

One thing I didn't tell you, but just thought and chuckled about this morning... Here it goes...

It was the night before Christmas, when all through the house, everyone was restless and it was almost 11pm. Relatives had been coming and going for the last 3 days already and, of course, Maddy had been evicted from her bedroom. It becomes the guest room on occasion and she took it under those conditions in the first place.

So she's roomless. Just like homeless only you have access to the kitchen and bathrooms and usually a couch to sleep on. She had taken over our bathroom.

If you remember, Christmas Eve was a crazy day for Robb. After only 1.5 hours to sleep before having to drive 4 hours in a blizzard unexpectedly, he was tired.

Extremely tired.

When we have tons of company, I just make sure there are enough blankets, sleeping bags etc left out for them. Places for the kids to crash, and since the parents were still up, I left it all to them to get the kids settled in. We went to bed. The light was off in our bedroom and Robb was finally able to get some sleep.

When suddenly the door swings open and Maddy comes in. Usually she says loudly, "3 2 1" then flips the light on. Like that's a heads up warning that the light is going to sear the eyes right out of your head, but I warned you, type of thing, so you shouldn't be upset. Thankfully she didn't, but she did start talking... and talking... and talking... Apparently she'd left her contact solution in our bathroom. Instead of just getting it quietly and leaving tho, she decided that she missed us and wanted to talk.

She got a little put out when I told her to go to bed, as if I didn't love her anymore... But I DO! So Maddy put on a pout and started acting squirrel-ly. She said that she'll just go out into the yard in her stocking feet and wait for the Polar Express! Then she'll get to ride on the train and see Santa and all that. And she kept talking... and talking... and talking...

Did I ever tell you that when she was 3, we thought for sure she was going to be an auctioneer?

Robb reached over to his bedside stand while she jabbered away and pretended to grab something. He told her, "Here! Here's your ticket!" Click click click click click... He pretended to punch a bunch of holes in her Polar Express ticket and handed the imaginary ticket to her.

She played along, grabbed it and asked, "What does it say? Believe?"

He replied, "No, it says LEAVE!"

THAT is funny. And it's so sweet that Maddy still wants to talk to her parents you know? Did you make that card? I want it.

That's hilarious! Your hubby still has a sense of humor and can deliver one-liners when he's half-asleep? Now THAT'S something to be grateful for! ;)
Love the picture of the LEAVE card...you're too creative, I tell you...

If you live on the Polar Express, can I get a ride and get some hot chocolate? I want the song and dance routine, too, please.

I love when the sons come in and talk to me while I'm in bed. Problem is I usually fall asleep before they are done talking. Then the next day, they'll be doing something and when I ask about it, they'll tell me that they told me all about it the night before!
