When my middle child was in daycare as a toddler, I was still working full time outside of home. I drove her almost 8 miles north of our town to drop off her brother at a friend's bus stop for school and meet up with her sitter who was dropping off her boys and lived even a few more miles further north.
Her babysitter had an odd tradition. On the first day the weather hit 60 degrees after winter, she would wear shorts. It didn't matter if it was a dry heat or raining. So that first day I saw her in red shorts, me still in my coat, I was shocked... Gail, what are you doing??!
But that was her tradition! Who am I to doubt or mock her. I guess the goosebumps keep her warm... kind of like a fur.
I think it's all a perception thing. We were in Scottsdale, Arizona over Spring break about 7-8 years ago and attended a church there. We were in summer frocks or at least short sleeved clothes and loved the weather. The regular church goers there were going into the church wearing parkas... It was over 70 degrees...
To us it was tropical! I guess goosebumps really do keep you warm when you're ready for it.

My inlaws live in Las Vegas and when they come up here during the summer they wear jackets. When we go there we wear shorts and if it's in the 70's they still wear jackets. :)
When I was 10 or so my parents and I went to southern CA during the summer.
I remember being on a bus in LA...it was 70 degrees that day. My mom and I were in short skirts and sleeveless shirts. Everyone else on the bus, the locals were wearing sweaters and complaining about the cold.
I decided then and there people in southern CA are nuts.lol
If I could pull off wearing shorts, I would do it. LOL!
But not when it was 60. That is just a little too chilly.
I bundle up unless it is less than 85 degrees (or so my son claims)
My dad has a place in the Florida Keys. We'll go and visit him around Christmas and we'll wear shorts and even go swimming. The locals all think we are crazy as they are bundle up in their sweatsuits and jackets.
It's kind of like thinking a 50° day late September is cool, but a near-50° day in mid-February (like we might get this weekend!) is a welcome heatwave.
My paralegal goes on all the time about how much of a difference geography makes in one's perception of cold. She and I both grew up in the frigid north, but were still freezing our arses off when it hit the lower 50's in SC.
I think it is all in the perception of things. It was single digits here this morning and then my dad and I got on the phone. He is in Florida....he started complaining about the 50 degree temps.
In South Dakota I remember a few times laying out when it was 65 in a desperate attempt to be tan for prom.
In California, I wore shorts to Disneyland when it was in the 60s and my friend (a native of CA) was in a down jacket.
70 sounds absolutely wonderful!
