That's So Random!

Yeah! I used to watch That's So Raven! My kids loved it. I'd watch Barney, Spongebob, Hey Arnold! (Hey Arnold was my definite favorite of those three...) Now I watch iCarly...

Eh - you grow...

*****************

The puppy is gone. YEP! I emailed everyone on my email list, 4H club, posted on FB. None of that worked. My daughter texts a few friends and *POOF*! They came by last night and little Marley is off to Minneapolis to live with a couple newlyweds!

Meri took it harder this time I think. She was really hoping that we'd let her keep this one. But you know?... 5 dogs in the house at one time is wee bit much.

******************

Today is the first judging day of our County fair! I'm going to take a few things in and haven't quite decided on the third item yet. I haven't finished the baby jumper yet so I won't be taking that. Maybe for the State fair... But today I'll take in the prom dress and duffel bag for sure. I'll decide over my lunch break. Le prom dress needs a little handwork on the waist strap, but that will take 5 minutes.

Wish me luck!

***************

I drove by a house the other day where their yard work needed more than just a lick and a promise. The yard was mowed... barely and there were small trees and thistles growing in the landscaping. hmmm... Reminded me of my house...

As you've probably gathered... I haven't had much time outside this summer!

**************

My son has been detasseling for the last several days. You don't know what THAT is? Well, it's definitely a Midwestern type of thing... The seed companies are creating hybrid corn by cross pollination and the tassles on certain rows of corn need to get pulled out in order for this to happen. *SonyaAnn! Get your mind out of the gutter! I know what you're thinking!*
Kids from the age of 14 and up get about 3 weeks of the most muddy, hot, sticky, itchy work and get paid very well for it! My son is getting a very deep burn/tan and corn rash. Not fun, but hopefully it will pay some bills...

The girls piano lessons were moved to this afternoon.

************

I still have a dog kennel in my dining room. That WILL get remedied!

************

My husband found an awesome tutorial about how to make neck thingies that help keep you cool. YES! I KNOW!!! He's reading other women's blogs!!!!

I stopped by Hobby Lobby last night after dog training class and picked up some gel crystals that absorb water like crazy! I made two of these thingies and Ryan is wearing one in the fields to day and I've got the other on my neck right now. I think I like it! I'll make another for Robb to wear for his Bagpipe Band parade march this weekend.

I'll show you them after I've made a few more and get it down pat.

************

The heat index is way above freezing. Trust me on that... I think it might be up to egg frying on the sidewalk temps today! Get me a spatula!

Have a wonderful Wednesday and try and stay cool!

Yay for the neck wraps. My hubby wants a rice bag for his neck when it gets stiff. I've been searching for a tutorial, but I think I'm going to have to wing it. He wants handles on it.

Detassling. LOL It DOES sound bad.
For an Oregonian.
I feel bad for Meri...I can imagine how she wanted that pup.
And I watch iCarly too. UGH!

I think my favorite "kid" show right now is Phineas and Ferb. Used to like the Rugrats, too.

I was never tall enough for detasseling! I convinced myself that I didn't want to anyway lol.

I'm hoping to stock up on some delicious corn while up there! I miss my iowa sweet corn, last time I came up three years ago was in November. Nothing going on then!

As I read five dogs, all I could think about was that's a lot of poop.
I've heard of de-tassling only because many Amish teens do this as their first job.

I saw those neck things on QVC - Flyboy's high school girlfriend bought him some and they really work. He worked one summer climbing telephone poles as a subcontractor of verizon - my nerves

My daughter has one of those cool neck wraps she uses for softball. They are great. Funny that your husband found that idea by reading blogs! Love it!

"Le prom dress needs a little handwork on the waist strap, but that will take 5 minutes." I had to laugh at that one. If I was doing that, I'd need about 55 HUNDRED MINUTES!!! LOL ;)

Glad the pup found a good home. That is too cute that he gets to be the newlywed's firstborn! :)

I was too short for detasseling, so I did the next best thing...bean walking. Yeah...I was cool like that! hahahahaha.....

You're just a kid at heart. My mom made some of those neck wraps years ago. They work great. The detasseling reminded me of when my mom was young and she used to pick potatoes on her grandparents farm.

I love iCarly! Sadly, since the TV went kaput I haven't really gotten to watch it. Then again, neither has Punky and that's probably a plus.

Yay for a happy home for the pup!

Good luck at the fair! I'm sure you'll do great! you always do.

Detasseling corn...I once dated a boy who detasseled corn. All I remember about him is that he was always tan and had rough hands.

But he always had money to pay for the movies.

Have fun at the fair!

Detasseling. Did that five summers in a row starting at age 12. In fact, I filled out my SS# cards and handed them in the second summer so Uncle Sam could get his hands on some of my detasseling money. Rode machines. Walked, too.

You said it well...muddy, hot, sticky, itchy work but I and all our friends bought our school clothes and had spending money for the upcoming school year. When we finished detasseling we hoed beans for the rest of the summer. When school started I was very happy that summer "vacation" was over.

Working in the fields was great incentive to get a high school diploma so I could get a "better job". lol

I confess to still watching That's So Raven on occasion when I wake up late on a Sat and there is nothing else on to workout to-- it really is a funny show. I love the dad!
