Trendsetters and Starting Fads

Have you ever heard of Bathroom toast? It's all the rage these days... One Christmas, several Christmases ago, all the outlets and available counter space in the kitchen were used up due to crockpots, roasters, etc getting ready for Christmas dinner.

But we still had to eat SOMETHING for breakfast! So the toaster was taken into the bathroom and plugged in in there.

Thus began the tradition of bathroom toast! It was also, coincidentally, the initiation of bathroom coffee too. We don't actually do this anymore than that one year, but we speak of it fondly every holiday and ask if anyone would like some.

Meri had to do a speech on an invention yesterday, so she asked if she could bring my toaster to school with her. I cleaned it up and shook out all the crumbs. Even going so far as to pull the little tray out of the bottom and washing it. Did you know toasters had those for catching stray crumbs? I also didn't realize there was a piece of bread wedged down there...

That would explain the smoke detector...
Her speech went great. She talked about when toasters were first invented and when they started using electricity to power them, all the while holding up my rusting toaster. The other speeches that day were just plain speeches. No props at all for any of the others.

After school, a few friends told her that bringing the toaster was a brilliant idea and they were going to do something like it for today!

My little girl is a trendsetter!

I'm just wondering how those other kids are going to lug an air conditioner or ice cream to school.

If there's a crumb tray, how do my kids manage to STILL get toast crumbs all over the counter????

You are very resourceful!!! We had laundry room spaghetti. Many years ago, we tore out the kitchen and I had to cook in the laundry room on top of the washing machine. Probably not as good as bathroom toast.

Too bad she didn't bring a loaf of bread and made toast as she did her presentation!

Momma has a point--passing out freshly toasted cinnamon bread would have really blown them all away. ;) Coffee in the bathroom would make me feel like I was staying at a hotel. Don't they usually cram the coffee maker somewhere in that vicinity?
