Meri is running for Student council of the 6th grade! She was on it last year too and really enjoyed being a part of decision making. Her main reason this year is to get the 6th grade involved in the end of the year talent show.
She and her dad agonized over speech writing earlier this week and here is her speech that she did yesterday.
Teachers, students, my fellow students. My name is Meri XXXX and I want to be your representative to Student Council. Why should you vote for me? I’m experienced. I had an awesome time representing you on student council last year. I’m a good listener. I enjoy talking to people and discussing ideas. I’m a hard worker. I will dedicate myself to being the best representative I can be, and I don’t lose, I’m going to the meetings anyway. I’m Meri XXXX and I approve this message.. Peace out…
So out of the 9 speeches given yesterday, she made it to the top 5 and will be giving a speech today also. She COULD have done the exact same speech, but after her dad started joking and tossing ideas around last night at dinner, she decided to do a new one. So they brainstormed for a while and came up with this one.
She's practiced it on me several times so far this morning and I gave her tips since she never heard these speeches given in public before. She'd heard snippets of them before but never how they were meant to sound. Also gave her a tip to pause right after the "philosopher" bit... So read it for yourself.
Four score and seven days ago I had a dream… That I would be your representative to Student Council. Electing me would be one small step for me, but one giant leap for this school. Ask not what your school can do for you, ask what you can do for me. Vote for me. Finally, in the words of the great singer/song writer, and philosopher... Justin Bieber, “Never say never, I will fight til forever”. I’m Meri XXXXX and I approve this message..
Plus she's wearing her brother's old school football jersey for the loyalty factor...
GO MERI!!!! So yeah. If I was in 6th grade, I would SO vote for her!
