The Land Before Digital

Do you remember the time before you had a digital camera? You know... The time before when all of the sudden your photos were organized by the month & year automatically. When you were still scrapbooking because the printed photos would get lost somewhere in your house.

Now-a-days, you think, "Oh, Those photos are safe on my computer. I'll print them all off sometime and get back to scrapbooking!" It hasn't happened yet, has it? BTW: Make a backup of your photos sometime just to be safe!

I've taken a HUGE break from scrapbooking. Years, in fact... I forced myself to restart when my son was a sophomore in high school, saying, "My son is going to graduate in 3-5 years, I need to get these done for his graduation party!!!"

All the supplies have sat since. Well, not entirely. They've been gathered into boxes and packed away in the garage now. Sometimes getting moved to gain access to the Christmas ornament boxes behind them. Or to stand on top of them to reach the garage heater switch...

Well, now I've got a daughter who is going to graduation high school in 1.5 years. And January is coming up which was traditionally my time to scrap. When the kids go back to school after Christmas break and my lunchtime feels empty, I'd dig into the scrapbooks. ESPECIALLY after the tree comes down! I have an empty feeling and feel I need to fill it with memories, even if they're ten years old.

Anyway... Why am I rambling? Oh yeah...

Over the weekend Meri told us that she needed some old pictures of herself from a baby on up and they have to be funny. Apparently she's the VIP of the week in her classroom. It's HER special week! Maybe I'll go have lunch with her Wednesday... But one whole bulletin board is devoted to just pictures of herself.

She went through the photo albums and put a napkin to mark each page she wanted me to scan in. I spent over an hour yesterday scanning in and digitally cropping about 30+ pictures! My desk has all the littered napkins all over it and Meri says that I must be a messy eater... We printed them all off and she's toting that many photos to school today.

So here you go. Enjoy the montage of Meri throughout the years. And with her birthday coming up soon, you'll probably see them again in a few weeks, but in video form.

Click on the pictures and they'll get larger!
I wish I had all of them scanned in, but you think I take a lot of pictures now! I took a lot then too and printing them cost a small fortune. Maybe that's why I've been holding off getting the digital ones printed...

So you are saying that your scrapbooking pile is like my sewing pile?....something you WANT to get to but don't. 8-)

We are more alike than I thought.lol

I'm the most unsentimental woman I know. I don't do anything with my digital photos and have years upon years of actual paper photos just thrown in to a big cedar chest, with no intention of doing anything with them. I must be missing the scrap-booking chromosome or something.

those pics are great - especially the expression on her face in the guillotine one.

I fondly remember the days before digital. was whining about that on facebook the other day; it took soooo much less time. drop off photos and pick them up. no editing. done.

I love to take pictures with my non digital! I am a photography minor so playing around with real film makes my day, even though I do like the instant of digital. I wanted to scrapbook and I made my parents one but I didn't really get the hang of it.

Coupons. Yes coupons at Walgreens to get your photo's developed is the best way to do it. Right now, this week, there is a code you put in when you do your on line order to get 30% off.
It's the only time I order photos.....

I have the worst problem hoarding digital photos. I have thousands. I print off some here and there. But thanks to my trusty camera AND camera phone...ugh. I'll never afford to print them.

Love the photos and now I'm glad that I could see her grow. She looks beautiful in that white dress. Was she a flower girl?
Although I'm not a crafter, I really should print out photos and make scrapbooks just in case something happens with the computer and all that jazz. Plus, I bet the kids would love to organize photos of themselves. m.
