Part 1: 2011 summary January - March
The first part of this year I will label in one word, "frantic". Ok two words, "frantic and fabric".
Make that three, "frantic, fabric and life changes". Ok ok, there are a thousand words, so I'll just stop there.
Here goes...
I made a baptism gown for my sister's new baby, Stevie Ann, out of one of our spare craft wedding gowns. We just had a couple hanging around... AND a confirmation dress, out of different fabric, for Stevie's big sister. Both girls looked beautiful!Maddy found her Sweetheart ball dress in a store, took a picture of it with her dinky cell phone and asked me to make her one just like it. Got some wonderful advice from a theatrical designer friend of mine to complete that project and we hosted several couples in our house for the evening.Maddy designed her prom dress and asked me to make it. Mid February we had a new member of the family, so my sewing room became the spare room and my sewing stuff got moved out into the hallway. Many many many nights and weekends were spent in said hallway sewing Maddy's dress with kids climbing over my back to get to their bedrooms and Maddy sitting next to me to prod me on while she texted.Maddy called it her Ariel dress (Princess of the seas) and wanted to pin baggies of goldfish under the top layer of the organza. That idea was squelched. This project lasted into April.Speaking of the new family member, we became the "parents" to Tiffany. As we all learned how to live in the same house together, we got to know her really well. The girls treated her like a sister. My son came to visit pretty often too. So that was nice.
I discovered the wonderful world of Burda! Every time the magazine came in the mail, the girls poured over it and started placing orders of various things they wanted me to make them out of it. Tiffany got in on the action too and I believe the first thing I made out of them was a dress for her!
Meri got her brown & then red belt in Taekwondo and was just a hop & a skip away from a black belt!
Spring break brought time to help pack up my parents in preparation to moving into a smaller house and then spent the rest on a stay-cation. Each day was full but it was nice not having to report to work! Reporting to the kids is much more fun. I found some awesome fun pics of my dad as a baby! And of course that week wasn't complete without Saint Patrick's Day pub hopping with the bagpipe band! We took Meri along and decided half way through that having an 11 year old around a bunch of drunks is probably a bad idea. hmm.. We don't get parents of the year THIS year... Maybe next year, but I doubt it.So anyway, that is my summary of the year so far. I'm linked up with Mimi over at Four Living In France. Go on over and see her summary!

You amaze me! Sewing pillow covers was tricky for me.
Your daughter's dress is beautiful!
Thank you so much for playing along! So fun to look back and remember what happened
I don't know how you survived even those months. I can't wait to read the next installment of your world.
Does that baby up top still have those cheeks? Cuz I could just kiss 'em off! Do that for me next time you see her.

you know I am completely in awe of all that you do. So many talents!! Enjoyed catching up on your year...
Your little niece is adorable!!! And your dresses are beautiful. You are so talented. My sewing machine is in my basement collecting dust, but I would like to start up again, possibly with a bean bag. :)
You are so talented! I am just starting to sew, I love it,
Your sewing is very impressive!!!! I once sewed an apron. That's when I learned that to "press" meant to iron. My mom still teases me about it. Ha! Thanks for linking up!
this is exciting to see the year in review...yet, i cannot remember what i did yesterday, LOL! i love your creations as always! i wish i could get some of my moms old photos to post since i'm a lover of vintage and family photos! love that pic of your dad! isn't it nice to talk to them about those days! i like hearing their stories, so incredible! happy year doll! here's to 2012...can u believe???
Love the goldfish idea, haha! What a year you've had! Anyways, I was thinking if I made that dress and the cutout in the back was really unflattering - my lower back is the only place I have fat rolls, so it is a possibility - I thought I could make a snap-in lace panel, and maybe that would be a solution to your problem as well. Of course, I have a large scar on my upper back from a mole being removed which might not get covered, but I'll have to live with that.
So wonderful to be able to go back and recall all the good times! Have a wonderful week! I really like this idea!
Blessings,
Jill
