They Called Her Valerie!

I am so bummed! Davy Jones died yesterday!!!

Davy Jones!!!

Ok... I'm 45, so a bunch of you young folk will probably only remember him from reruns of The Brady Bunch when Marcia wanted him to go to the dance with her or sing at it... I don't remember. I'm that old.

Oh! And that "I'm A Believer" song was NOT made just for Shrek... I played it for Meri this morning off of Youtube and now she's a Monkees fan too. She's mad at Shrek for not writing their own darn song. But I assured her that they got permission to use it...

But I remember him best for being in the Monkees tv show! Granted their series didn't start until the year I was born, but I grew up at the same time that they were thrust into the lime light. I loved their story about how they were thrown together for a spoof tv show at the same time that the Beatles were hot. None of them knew each other before trying out for it.

Then to become a real band to boot. Awesome. I watched all the reruns of the series and now I want to find them for Meri to watch. I think Netflix has them on dvd only. I loved that the songs were clean & fun. She'll get a kick out of them.

An old boyfriend gave me the following song that he had a taping of. I kept the tape but not him.

Davy Jones, you will be missed!

I loved all of them. They were all so cute and quirky. It just worked for me.

I used to watch the reruns and loved it. I'll still sing the theme song for my kids sometimes. And I have the original handpuppet. Sadly, the voice box is broken so when you pull the string there's no sound.

OMG.....feeling so OLD now after reading these comments!!
I watched the show but it wasn't years later in reruns on tvland or anything.lolol
Monday nights after dinner and homework was Monkees time...lol

Me and the kids in my neighborhood during the summer did variety shows(like a Laugh-In show, which we watched when it originally aired too)and skits and we would take our Monkees records and lipsync episodes from their show. Yes, I was a geek back then too....
Now I am a geek who feels decrepit and ancient...

I feel old too! I remember watching their show on Saturday at noon, thinking I was cool because it wasn't a cartoon.
True fact there was only ONE musician in this group. The rest 'faked' it.

As I mentioned on Sluggy's blog, I remember them, but I wasn't much of a fan. I think of them as the 60s version of the Jonas Brothers or something like that.

But...I am sad that you're sad. :(
